Buying Advice Looking for a good price

If you have not bought one....this one might be worth a look.

I have been watching this 186D up in MD/PA....now priced at $4500

Yanmar 186d

Would need to go look at it....but looks pretty good and priced right if it is in good condition.

Maybe something worth pursuing if it meets your requirements.

I have 187D which is the longer version of the 186 and have been very pleased with it.

A friend of mine near my farm, south of charlotte by about 1 hour+ bought one a month or so ago maybe from the guy in rock hill or wherever we were talking about. He said the same thing, the guy has a farm in VA where he tests them out etc. He siad he put 40 hours on them. Now not saying he lying but buddy bought a 2210. Thats a bunch of hours to put on a tractor that size that you just got refurbished to sell. Anyway nice looking tractor and no problems yet but he has no implements and just uses the loader to lift stuff so far. The guy is a mechanic. If i cant fix it or his price is so cheap i wont fool with it i let him do it, that and tires he sells them cheap!

The guy I was talking about is in Concord, NC just north of Charlotte. I talked to him at length and he told me his tractors are delivered to him at his farm there in Concord where he drives each of them around to see that everything is functioning properly before he sells them. He and his dad have several acres there that they farm. I can see no reason he would haul them to Virginia to try them out when he has a large place to test them where he lives. He also changes out the fluids and filters just to be sure they are serviced correctly. As far as hours, none of the tractors I looked at, including the one I bought, had more than 20 hours or so on them. As I mentioned before, he told me he wished they (the rebuilders) would leave the hour meters alone so buyers would know the actual hours on the machine. As far as a farm in Virginia, he told me that he does own some land in Virginia that he vacations at from time to time. Maybe he took one of his tractors there to use and that is the one he has put 40 hours on....but that is just speculation on my part. Whatever the case, he seems like a stand-up guy and so far I am loving my FX32D.

Yep thats the guy, in concord, i knew i would recognize it. Its the same guy were talking about.

Thanks for the replies,I live in the middle of Kansas. I havn't noticed any dealers this part of the country so I'm looking at an additional $700 to $1100 freight charge. There is a vn the size I'm looking for about 150 miles from here but but I'm a little concerned about buying one after reading what some folks have to say about them.

Ask how many hours the guy has put on it and how many owners it has had and when it was bought. If its been like 3 yrs and 150 hours i would not worry to much where it came from.

Excellent advice! If it survived the prior owner's first 50 hours / one year then the odds are excellent that you have found a generic, standard-condition Yanmar and there's nothing to be afraid of.
