Right now I have two mowers to handle my mowing jobs. One is a regular lawn tractor with a 40" cut for the 1 acre lawn and the other is a DR mower for the 1 acre field with higher grass, rough terrain and rocks. Both my field and parts of lawn are on slopes. I can cut most of the lawn with no problem, but on the part with a slope I loose traction and have to fight the mower with one wheel spinning and scare myself into thinking I might tip over. The DR works great for the field but I am getting lazier in my old age and really would like to have something that I can ride. What I need is a small 4 wheel drive mower, that is low profile so I don't feel like I am going to tip over, and that can raise the deck high enough to clear rough terrain and rocks on a slope. I have read about the Steiner type tractors but that is really larger than I need. Is there anything else out there like that except smaller?

Budget?

These Canycoms CANYCOM USA, Inc. Home Page are amazing, low profile, 4wd mowers that can handle brush, but they are not cheap. They are about steiner prices, maybe a bit higher. NA availability is a bit of an issue because they have limited distribution, but then again so does Steiner. NOS CMX222's are $13500/

That looks similar to my situation as far my slope and grass to what the guy is mowing. I will look to see where the nearest dealer to me is. I knew it would be more expensive than a regular mower but maybe I can luck out and find something used. Thanks for your help.

I would pay $6-8K for it maybe. ... At $13K a Kub BX w/mmm offers everything it was shown doing along with other very valuable capabilities.

I thought about a small 4 wheel drive tractor but was afraid that it might turn over.

What kind of angle are you dealing with? I take my BX on 20* slopes however I have weighted tires. Even with weighted tires things can get a bit hairy at more than 24* sidehill.

That said, a BX is NOT that great a mower compared to a true, dedicated mower. Ive now gone to a zero turn for mowing.

I use an old front deck 4WD commercial mower, 6'deck.

On the 27 degree slope, the south side of the dam.

And with an 88" TriFlex deck.

Got to have 4x4 for steep sidehills.

I am guessing that my angle is steeper than that but I don't know yet. Speaking of slope angles, what is the best way to figure out what my slope is? I have thought about using two levels, one horizontal and one vertical and measuring the distance between them on the ground and using a formula to figure out the angle. Is there an easier way?
