Hey Guys, can anyone out there give me a clue where I might find a small sickle mower that does not cost an arm and leg? Looking for a Cat I five or six foot that I can use to mow some steep banks along the road side. I have even thought about making one out of an old combine sickle but would prefer to have a factory made unit. The only units I have found run in the three to four thousand dollar range and that seems pretty stiff. Any ideas will be appreciated.

I've been looking, too, and they're quite pricey. I could use one to mow the banks of the retention pond at the church - don't want to lay out the huge bucks they seem to cost. I'm getting tired of pushing the old hand mower up and down - my pucker factor started buzzing when I tried the tractor. Darn bank's too steep... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You can finde good used ones for the 3-500 range. Keep an eye out at your local implement store.

I would never pay over 500 for a sickle.

Be very carful these things bite.

I found the New Idea sickle mower on IRON Solutions.
Check out the picture attached.
I used one of these for several years.
Dealer in NE. wants $675 for this one.

That is an interesting sickle.

All of the ones that I have used have been 3 pt. However a draw behind would take care of the class problem.

One thing to think about if buying a 3 pt sickle, if you have the teliscopic three point lower arms the lift, blade tilt device may not fit on the arm correctly. I had this problem with a new holland and a ford sickle.

I was trying to clean up a bank for a buddy with my MMM. Pucker Factor was high as there were wash out areas--when the wheels dropped in those, it was SCAREY! Think if I need to do something like that again, I'll rent one of the walk behind bush hog type units that you see on TV. Our rental place has one and it looks massive. If it starts to go over, you can just turn loose of it!

Good used sicklebar mowers are rare and still pretty spendy. You might try this place for a new, inexpensive one.

Those new, inexpensive sicklebar mowers are cheaper at Agri-Supply

If those are the same items, nomad, it appears to me that CCI is cheaper, ($995/$1089, $1100/$1179, and aux. hyd. lift, $180/$199.95).
