Obviously, I am new to this site, but am trying to get some input from people that know about tractors. I own some acreage in Georgia and am looking for a small tractor to do some bush hogging and plant food plots on about 10 acres of the land.

I have looked at used John Deeres and a new Lenar 254, but have some concerns about the Lenars after reading some posts about mechanical issues and getting someone to repair it if it breaks down.

Are there any other models that users out there recommend? I would like to get some insight from others about what direction to head for what I'm trying to do. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hello Brianz,

From the brief description of your usage I would like to suggest the Montana 3040 or 3840. I would go the 38 but the 30 will do it no problem just with a bit more time.

There are quit a few Montana dealers in Georgia. As for the Lenar, I will leave that one alone since I have only seen one in person once and have heard what you also have read.

The Montana's are excellent tractors in quality, features and price so I would definitly drive one and compare them in your search.

Best of luck,
Maka

Actually sounds like you are more in the market for a CUT that a UT.. though you can probably find a good deal$$ on slightly used UT and AG tractors.

30-ish-hp range sounds about right.

Are you specifically looking for economy or #2 brands.. or are you also considering 'big3' models new?

Yes, I have considered big 3 new, as well, specifically JD. I have not heard of the Montana, so thanks for sharing that one with me. I will do some research on it. I have also heard about a 25hp Kioti. What has the overall feedback been on this line? Is the reputation of the selling dealer more important than the actual tractor line most important in my decision?

And yes, probably a CUT would be more of what I'm looking at. Thanks for all your help!

I think no matter what you buy.. the sealling dealer / dealer support will be a huge selling point. Equally important will be the condition of the machine.

I see lots of adds for montana.. Looks like they may be a good competitor for the economy and #2 line tractors. Can't comment on them much as I have not seen/drove one.

Kioti is a good strong name / brand...If you find a good dealer, and the kioti is a good price.. i wouldn't be afraid to own one.. even if it is orange!

I'm a ford man myself... that and NH...

Would a 6x4 Gator do what I'm looking to accomplish? If so, what kind of mower attachment is available on these types of units, since there is no PTO?

I wouldn't use a gator to do the job of a tractor.... Be like driving your car around.

If you did go that option.. it would have to be ground drivel or self powered...( $$$$ )
