Tiller looking for best tiller for money

so the tiller comes with the slip clutch? and nikdfish did u have to get a longer top link for the tiller since the one that comes with the 3038e is short that i have found. so the 60" covers the tires and is probably the best match for the tractor?

Yes, the tiller I bought included the PTO shaft w/ slip clutch in the unit price. I believe the king kutters do also. 60" covers my (R4) tracks just fine, the main reason for 60" vs 72" for me was price & availability. The 3038e's top link length was fine, but I believe I had to shorten the PTO shaft a little bit...

Yes, it makes sense, but be careful with waiting for a sale.

You may not be the only one waiting, and they may know the manager, or an employee there (and get inside info).

The reason I say this is that the TSC near where I live usually only has 1 of those in stock, and you could be left out in the cold( so to speak).

I just checked online........the 60" is $1699 at my local TSC, the 72" is $1999, and the 48" is $1599.

Location will play a difference in price. I bought a 60" here in east texas last spring for 1385.00 on sale. If I had of had a farm exemption they would've knocked another 100.00 off of that, plus no tax. My findings here is,if they have a sale, and are out of stock, they will order one in for you at that price...so waiting for a sale is still viable.

also...sometimes it doesnt hurt to ask. The manager may sell it cheaper, even if its not on sale. Most stores are needing to meet sales quota's right now....

Atwoods is just down the street from Tractor Supply here....makes for a little competition on pricing.

I do a lot of gardens and establish or renovate at least a couple of yards each spring and fall and I have a 60" Massey-Ferguson that I use for the heavy work and a Land Pride counter-rotating tine tiller I use for the finer fork. Both are quite satisfactory, and I have had Howard tillers in the past.

What I wanted to mention was that you said you might have to sell your moldboard plow to get the tiller. Although many people would say that the tiller would make the plow redundant, I would disagree. I have found if you plow prior to tilling you will get a much better seedbed on the areas you want to plant. For gardens and food-plots I would try to keep the plow if possible.

Agreed 110%....

I don't rely to much on TSC's online price for their tillers as they are usually $100 cheaper in the store. If you have a TSC cc, they offer 0% interest a couple times a yr. The one near me carries both the KKII and what looks like a Tarter Gate version.
