Looking for \"do\'s & dont\'s\" when buying a 2210

hello to all.....

was hoping to get some advise on what to look for when buying a Yanmar 2210.....I found a dealer in Richland Ga. (CAS tractors)that that sells several differnt compact tractor packages.....I think I have narrowed my search to a:

2210 (2wd)
16' tandem axle trailer (ramps not gate)
4' bushhog
4' harrows (12 disc)
boxblade (medium grade)

I will be using the tractor to clear the brush on my property, and also on my deer lease for clearing brush and making foodplots.....

is there anything I need to look for or ask....what if the tractor is from Viet Nam??? is it Normal to hear that they are refurbished or "re-conditioned"????

what specific answers should I ask???

from what I can gather, this guy has been in business for a while and sells a heap of these packages....he advertises on traderonline.com a lot,

and also, the 2210, give me your opinion on this tractor....durable??? easy to use???? pro's??? con's???

let me hear it!!!! and I've spent about 2 days reading every post I could find on hear about Yanmars , and 2210's specifically....

thanks for any input!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

If you're not comfortable or lack experience with tractors, take a friend who is. How many hours? If it is reconditioned "Like New" then the seller should offer a substantial warranty for parts AND labor on everything. Will they do that? Do they have a dedicated shop for rebuilding and repairs?

I have heard that the 2210 is the most powerful for the money, in the small Yanmar line. I haven't heard any complaints about that specific model.

Mark...their web claim is that the "Tractor is like new and comes with a full warranty." Also they have the 2200 and 2700 which tend to be red flags.

Ask for references, recent AND old. We usually provide 3-5 references when requested, with at least two being more than a year old. Everyone's happy at first. Ask where service will be done, where they get their parts, then price some specific parts. If they can't, within a few minutes, tell you specifically what a starter/water pump/injector insulator/tach cable/ would cost, well......they probably don't have a good source for parts. Ask to see the parts book for the model you're intersted in (we have them, as do all dealers I do business with). Ask for a list of what is done in their refurbishing...if it includes major stuff like head gasket, reconditioning head, etc. ask WHY they would do that if there was no problem with it. Now we replace a few head gaskets, but certainly not as a rule of thumb...simply don't need to. OK, that should be enough to stymie them.

Re: Looking for \"do\'s & dont\'s\" when buying a 2210

I have a 2210 2wd with front end loader. I love it. It was a vn recon. The guy who sold it to me did not know it was but it was. Viena Tractor did the refurb(spelling may not be right). The guy who I bought it from. (ebay) Is a great guy. He is a ford Mechanic. He goes Through them after he gets them and makes sure they are good. He is down by Dallas. The loader I have is a V loader. The V stands for Viena Tractor(spelling may not be right). I have had good luck with it so far. I wish it was a quick attached but I just don't take it off. I would recommend this loader for the money. Alot of members of this board do not consider the VN rebuilds to be good units. They prefer low hr used units. I have seen some low hr used units I like but also some that need cleaning up. I like the new paint. I don't run my unit commercially. I just use it around the 8 acres. I clean up horse pooh and maintain pasture. I till the round pin (6ft tiller is a little big but works behind the 2210)and the garden. For the money I am very happy. I hope the thing runs for 20 years! The power shift trans is funtastic. I have seen some repainted tractors that did not seem to be put together well. I do not know who did these. I think that there is more than one VN outfit rebuilding these tractors. I think there maybe some repainting etc.. going on here in the US. I don't have trailer of my own. I have a friend with one. I was going to buy one but I have found it to be a great excuse why I can't go and do everbodys tractoring. Sorry I don't have a trailer.

Re: Looking for \"do\'s & dont\'s\" when buying a 2210

I have a YM2210D that i love. I have a 5' tiller, 5' box scraper and front end loader. I would highly recomend purchasing a four wheel drive version. When pulling the box scraper sometimes i will slip it into two wheel drive with the rear diff lock engaged and the difference is like night and day. Not as much difference when using the loader. Depends on what you plan on using the tractor for. Great tractor though, starts right up every time. Never use the thermostart just crank for less than two seconds and your off. I purchased mine as a good used (not reconditioned) changed fluids, mounted loader, replaced water pump and went to work.

best of luck,
joe
