Hello guys,im new to this forum, looks like a bookmarker /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifIm looking for some input for help in purchasing a flail mower for my honda Rancher.I have about 6 acres of pasture, and about 5 more that i let go wild with native grasses, that go about 2'or 3 ' tall in the spring/early summer.I need to cut it for fire suppression, problem is its pretty muddy back there til late spring, thus its so tall.Does a quad pulled flail mower have a prayer of cutting this tall grass? If so,does it do a neat/uniform job?

When I was looking to buy a mower for my ATV I checked into a number of the rotary brush hog mowers -- Cycle Country comes to mind along with a few others (Rhino??). Anyway, everyone I talked to had the same two complaints: the wheels are too, and; they tear themselves apart in no time. Typically, the pulleys, shrouds, wheel mounts, and other "delicate" parts just don't take the vibration.

When I saw the Alamo I was totally impressed with the heft of the machine. Its all muscle and the Honda engine is a nice bonus. As noted in the other thread, I'll leave you a message so you can get in touch with me if you want more info.

Thanks,

Rod

Oh yeah, forgot to answer your question. Answer: it depends. It cuts high grass if not too dense. And it cuts dense grass if not too high. But anything it cuts is left in a nice clean condition -- it chops everything fine and cuts very evenly. I suspect you could get out there and mow earlier with it since it will go anywhere your ATV will go. Mud shouldn't be a problem. You don't want to hit a lot of big rocks but if you do the blades tend to bounce off -- I never broke any -- and its a lot less critical than with a blade. I used it in neglected fields and in the yard. The larger tires were a real plus in both situations.
