I have a steep trail as well. I dumped the stone at the bottom and then hauled it up. The tracked machine goes up fine when loaded, but wants to heel over backwards if empty. Advantage is that you can now put the material right where it's needed without needing to rework it. Pushing sideways or uphill is pretty tough when on a slope. If you want to haul more material, a hopper will go faster, but make sure you have a remote quick attach. After that, there are tracked dumpers. Yanmar makes some good ones, Morooka is a bit more popular. If the trail is steep, I can't see how your machine will have the traction necessary to pull a trailer.

I think I am going to straighten it out first then try a hitch on the skid steer. Traction is really only an issue on the switchback, and if I fix that straighten that lower part up it will be a straight shot if it is dry I am not too concerned about traction. I wouldn't try it as is but,, repaired I would.

I would suggest you cut the side slopes with an excavator to level out the side slopes. Finish up with the skidsteer smoothing the road base. Should be much safer to move the rock after this stage.

Gotta do it with what I have. Even renting excavator ain't cheap. Been looking to buy a tilt tach for the skid steer but nothing affordable.

hit the junk yard, find a old "hood" from a car that is metal. flip it upside down, so smooth part goes against dirt. load your rocks on top, with some chains attached to what ever ya want to pull with.

google search for "rock sleds" plenty of different ideas beyond old metal hood of a car. that folks have used. it may not be fast, but as long as you can keep traction. and pull it.

just don't over load things. and keep safe.

drive backwards in skid steer, weld on some bucket hooks, to hook chains to, for rock sled, and curl bucket down wards. use bucket as possible last moment last ditch effort from rolling feet over head down hill.

Lol, that is still a possibility on this grade.

My original plan was an old jeep engine, sm465 with 205 transfer case, Dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear already geared 5.13. Build a ladder frame and make a rock buggy dumper out of it. The issue however is while I have all of that in the shop, I can barely find time to work on the road let alone build a monster truck to haul rock.

That rock sled seems like a better idea the more I think about it. Might help level and compact the roads that are already cut.

Might want to see if there are some old equipment skids that would work from oilfield equipment yards. Lots of these had heavy frames with steel sheet bottoms to trap oil. This might be just what you are needing to smooth out the roads and haul the rocks. Just a suggestion and I have also used an old car hood, that works okay for awhile.
