Looking for new /2" drive impact wrench

I bought a HF electric (Chicago Electric 1/2" corded) 15 years ago with a coupon for around $30, it's not the mad torque of these high end air guns people
are talking (boasting) about, but it gets the job done day in and day out without needing a big a** compressor to use it, and I have found that extension cords don't take as much effort to run out to where Imight use it.

I also bought one of their long 1/2" breaker bars to use both for final torque and to break nuts/lugs loose where people have overtorqued them.

It is a pain to use only because the ball os long gone from the hub, and now the cord is getting loose, but I feel that I've gotten my $30 worth and then some. It doesn't get used every day, but 4-5 times a year, it gets heavily used on at least 4 sets of wheels.

I do not think we are boasting
I had a craftsman electric, but it would not break the nuts loose on my eXmarks mower deck, all it would do is spin the blades and almost got myself hurt, so I spoke to a mechanic at the local eXmark dealer, told me to buy a good impact gun, and I have not had a single issue since.

There are reasons for purchasing quality tools, not all people need them, not all people want them, but you should not knock people who have made the choice to purchase them.

Where did you get the o-ring and metal ring? Can they be ordered on line?

When I have the need, or when there is a crucial difference, I also buy top end, name brand tools, but the OP described (as I recall) moderate intermittent use, which sounded much like mine, and the posts about the very expensive, elite top end tools seemed somewhat like bragging to me in that context.

That said, when I posted my comments, I was tired, in pain, and generally out of sorts, but that does not excuse boorish or impolite behavior, and I do really want to help to keep TBN a pleasant and incontentious place to read and discuss all the myriad and various things we all come here to write and read about, so I must apologize to any and all who took my remark negatively, and ask your forgiveness.

Sixdogs,

I apologize for tainting your thread.

I have an IR 2135T-Max. Its a light strong gun and I recently got a Compact Composite Impact from Sears that compares well to it. I bought it for its size -- about an inch shorter and 1/2 pound lighter than the IR -- but Im quite impressed with its power. I really cant tell the difference from the IR except its smaller. Since you have the Earthquake already, the smaller, lighter - still powerful gun could be a great addition. Its Craftsman model 919986, 5.8" long, 3.5#. I think it was $150.

Don't worry about it. Thread never tainted and your contributions kept the ball rolling.

OK, I understand, I get a little testy when I do not feel well either.
I think for the most part people on TBN do like to brag up their toys, but I think it is usually in the spirit of helping each other out as well.
Much like you would do with your neighbors.
Hope you are feeling better!

not that long ago I bought a dewalt 18 volt cordless impact wrench, yes I have air tools, and like air tools but I am amazed on how handy the cordless one is even in the shop, and it is great for away from the shop, many times I will grab the dewalt over the air even when I have the air handy. and I have air on welding/service truck.

I've actually got three impacts that I use one is a big Snap On impact that I bought many years ago when I was in college and I have have a small CH impact as well as a DeWalt 18V Impact driver. Each of those tools serves a purpose and each serve me well in what I ask them to do with the small CH and DeWalt getting the most use just because they are easier to handle and get into tight spots. I have been very surprised at what the DeWalt will do in the impact wrench role so far since it was never designed to do what I'm asking it to do. When I get home from work tonight I'll get a picture of all three side by side for a size comparison.

My 18v Milwaukee 1/2" impact is my go to. No cord or air hoses to deal with. My corded impact never gets used now and the air impact is for when dealing with stubborn bolts.

IR 231, had mine for nearly 20 years now and it still rocks.
