Looking for the highest quality conventional oil

For $1200 a barrel, they should come and do the oil changes, too. Most distributers deliver for free, and 3 oil analyses will run $90 at high retail. It's not hard to get them done by reputable labs for free through many distributers.

Please, provide reference of a distributor that will sell you a 55 drum of major name brand full synthetic 5w40 HDEO like Delvac 1, Rotella T6, Delo, deliver it free, and provide the kits and oil analysis, all for under $1200. Cheapest I have ever seen Delvac 1 5w40 HDEO in a 55 drum, for instance, was around $1500 and that was a few years ago. John Deere's price for a 55 drum of 5w40 full syn HDEO is criminal.

And please daugen, roll us one of what you are smoking. Not quite sure how you pulled Copperhead out of the air as a business or oil company. I clearly referenced Schaeffer as the brand. While that might be a strange name as far as oil is to you, they have been making lubricants in N. America longer than anyone else, for roughly 180 years. And they actually make some specialty items for Mobil and Shell, especially some high performance grease products. They are also the company that developed the lubes for the Apache Attack Helicopter and the M1 Abrams tank. Hardly a mom and pop entity that is brewing up stuff in the garage. But one part of your question, yes, they primarily cater to commercial users and such, though they will sell to anyone, and it is sometimes stocked at retail by some parts stores and shops.

this is really obnoxious. I told you the truth, never heard of Shaeffer since I'm not a commercial user and all you can do is be insulting? I was speaking to YOU Copperhead about Schaeffer, try rereading what I said one more time. My post came right after yours.

Well, I hadn't put in an order for Schaeffer for several months and hadn't kept up with their pricing. Checked with my rep last night and a 55 drum of 5w40 Schaeffer 9000 can be had for about $1196 or roughly $21.75 a gallon. And Schaeffer will have it delivered free of charge to your front door and even truck tailgate service to unload. And for a kicker, they will throw in 3 free oil samples kits complete with analysis and free postage. Of course, their syn blend versions will be lower priced but same free delivery and oil sample kit deal. And they do have 6 - 1 gallon cases that can be bought if someone doesn't want a drum. I am very partial to all their product offerings at Schaeffer, and I have grown partial to their syn blend offerings. Have never found a stinker in the bunch. And killer grease.
I have used Schaeffer products in the past oil/grease they make a fine product BUT how many average joes,s use a 55 gal. drum?

Daugen:
Are you looking for the best conventional that you can pick up at any Walmart and or parts store or the best of the best. Based on some of your postings I'm concluding the prior.
Since I don't use many oils sold at Walmart etc I can't offer much. I'd like to steer you to a different web site dedicated to oils.
Search Bobistheoilguy. More info there than one can handle at times. They go into the depths of a lot of content.
My use of conventional oil comes from my work. We use Mobil Delvac non synthetic in our medium duty trucks and has served us well.
I personally use the following
Amsoil: full synthetic and not what your after

Schaeffers: There products are a synthetic blend worth a look at

Swepco :it stands for South Western petroleum company. They are conventional oil but truly high grade. In some ways can stand with "synthetics" and have a couple synthetic offerings now as well. But you can get good oil and older formulations of oil from them.

I've been very happy with those three.

I just figured out that you were referring to full synthetic despite the blind obvious fact that the OP clearly asked for opinions on conventional oils. So your post was not only rude but of no help to the OP. I don't track pricing on full synthetics because I have zero interest in them for my uses.

My bad. I read it as "I don't know the name Copperhead" not "I don't know the name (,) Copperhead". I read it as you wrote it, that you hadn't heard of the brand "Copperhead" or Copperhead's trucks. So I read it wrong and goofed.

Well, you won't see Schaeffer's trucks around because they use other carriers to haul their stuff, just like all the other oil companies do. I haul Honda oil, Warren oil, and others, yet no one could tell it if they saw my truck rolling down the road. The oil I get from Schaeffer comes via Fed Ex truck to my place, complete with tailgate service to unload the cases and drums. And you won't see a Pennzoil, Mobil, or Chevron truck taking oil into a Wally World Distrubution center, O'Reilly's Distribution Center, etc either. The products are hauled by general carriers. Even Amsoil doesn't have it's own trucks. They have gotten Jeff Foster Trucking to slap Amsoil all over the trailer, but Jeff Foster Trucking is a general carrier. They just slap the Amsoil on to promote the product for Amsoil. Kinda like some of the trailers we have at my operation that are labeled all up with Sioux Bee Honey vinyl graphics. Sioux Honey is a major account and we do that for them and try to dedicate those trailers to Sioux Honey for product we haul for them. We are their primary carrier.

I also haul a lot of Kawasaki ATV's and UTV's direct from the plant in Lincoln, NE but you couldn't tell it by looking at the truck. And I like it that way. I don't want anyone to know I have a couple hundred thousand dollars of Kawasaki stuff in the trailer.

Same goes for every other thing you buy. For example, you might see local straight trucks dressed up as Budweiser trucks that deliver out to retail, but it is general carriers that haul from the breweries to the distributors. Budweiser corporate doesn't haul it's own stuff. And the local Budweiser trucks are not owned by Budweiser, but the local franchise distribution company for Budweiser.

Understood. I just put it out there for comparison. That I mentioned 5w40 should have given it away that was talking about a full syn.

Daugen, you are generally correct. Conventional oils have come a long way in the last 10 years that they are pretty good base oils and compete pretty well with synthetics. Synthetics still have an edge in some respects, and that is why I have grown fond of syn blends for the last few years. Kind of a best of all worlds at a cost that is comparable to straight conventional.

Here is a basic read on differences between base oil groups. You can dig further if this wets your appetite.

It was easy to obtain during the Alaska pipeline saga but not so much now, here in Ea WA. I used it in my 4WD vehicles and, even at that time, it was pretty expensive.

Whenever anybody mentions Alaska - everybody thinks - extreme cold. Well, the winters did get cold in the interior northern areas - Fairbanks and further north. However, what few understand is that summers could easily reach 90F and sometimes hotter. I was in Fairbanks in August when it got to 102F. So any motor oil had to span a wide range of temperatures.
-21degF now with a high of -16degF today in Fairbanks! Nice. Over a hundred in Fairbanks ever... really? I have heard of low 90s.

Agreed. I blew right past that at first.

There are 'boutique' conventional oils that retail for upwards of a grand a barrel. I've never understood the logic of paying that kind of $$

yeah, that would be a tough sell.

10 years living just southeast of Fairbanks, late '82 thru mid '92. I am not sure if it ever hit 100F during that time. Yeah, it did get into the 90's off and on, but not for any length of time. Doesn't really matter much. even if it did, it would be extremely short lived. We always got our first snow, at least on Donally Dome just south of me, around labor day. Ice never fully cleared out till Memorial day. The midnight baseball games were fun along with the major halibut and salmon fish fries. And I never won the Nenana Ice Classic.
