The way I want to use it is to open the jaws all the way, curl it down all the way and lower it so that the tips of the top tines just touch the ground, pull back to rake, then go forward with grapple curled back up to lift and remove the raked pile. Mostly limbs and debris. Any suggestions about brands and models? I think it should have a single, continuous rake-style top jaw, not a dual-cylinder split top jaw. Thanks for any help.

I have the Wicked Root grapple from Everything attachment and it meets your wants. Have used mine to do just what you are describing, and it works great. The only thing I don't like about it is up for debate, either have a guard on your tractor to protect the radiator of place protection in the back of the grapple to prevent large sticks coming through it into the radiator. They have their reason/belief they should not install expanded metal there and some will agree, not me. Really do like the grapple, most fun attachment I have ever used.

Are you raking / dragging the grapple on the ground with the curl cylinder almost fully extended?
Many a hydraulic cylinder has been bent if anything snags, it’s usually people with buckets, as there’s a lot of leverage at play.

In some situations, I want to be able to reach into the woods edge, for example, and drug stuff out. There will be cases where I cannot get behind the limbs/brush/debris to push into it.
Good tip and warning, thanks. Per my response to nyone, above, I want to be able to reach in somewhere and drag back. I suppose I could just grab and pull, but I wanted more of a rake effect.

I have a VERY HD grapple on my M6040. Even with all that - I DO NOT backdrag with the upper lid. I will rotate the grapple until it's pointing straight down, jaws wide open and then go down on whatever.
I don't have a whole lot of brush, limbs, detritus, etc - so backdragging is seldom to never done. Almost 100% is for picking and moving large rocks and pine tree trunks.
Land Pride SGC1560 with WR Long third function valve. ALSO - figure on doing something like this to your grill guard. Limbs, sticks and stobs have an nasty way of finding your grill, radiator or battery.
