Somewhere in the post someone started a thread on doing something to your dipstick so that you can see the hydro fluid. I have looked and done searches for an hour and I can't find it does anyone know what the thread title was or have any recommendations all I can see is the oil on the bottom of the stick in a drip hanging off once its on the stick I can't see it for beans. I've tried the stick it in and put it on a white paper towel but I'm concerned that what I see is just residual from being removed and not the actual level.

As I get older The Hydro level gets harder and harder to see. The eyes just don't work as well. Nothin I could do on my dipstick would help me see the oil level any better.

Wish the man. would put some dye in the oil.

Hi Stevenf
What i do is take the dip stick out wipe it off and take a black felt marker and color it. it makes it a little easier to read.

I'll try that because the burning the dipstick didn't seem to work it did darken the stick but the first time I wiped it off to put it back in to check it the blackened part came right off. I asked the service manager at Kubota about it and there were other service guys in there and they all smiled. After their little giggle they admitted that it was a problem and they were looking into getting some die to color their fluid redish.

I "enjoy" the same experience while trying to determine the fluid level. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I wonder if it would be worth the effort to paint the dipstick?

anyone ever do this?

I'd be afraid to paint it, some would eventually wear off and mix with your oil. The ideal time to paint it would be in the manufactoring process. They paint everything else then, but not the dipstick. I do not think that is because of cost. Pure speculation on my part though.
But, I would think colors or dyes would also have a negative connotation.

I have the same problem with the hydraulic fluid on the front end of my 4310. JD makes the stick yellow. I find that if I press the stick on the palm of my hand, I can tell exactly where the fluid is. Hope this helps.
