Junkman,

When one looses the ability to laugh at oneself its time for reassessment.

TBN is a neighborhood.

And just like in every other neighborhood there's going to be conflict between individuals. These individuals can accept that they can't get along with everyone and ignore those they find offensive. Or they can engage those they don't like and have some conflict.

In real life most people will do just about anything to avoid conflict. It's just not a fun thing. The same is true online.

However, some people enjoy conflict. Here, and there.

The good thing about the internet is those who don't enjoy conflict can avoid it so easily.

And they do.

Hey there Junk

You mention couple years ago posts or people were more cordial in posting. I think as form increases in size the same % of mean posters are out there, it's just with a larger number of members in this form there more angry people to post. These folks tend to be more vocal.

On hunting I agree with you; it's not good to pick sides. One point: I have 150 acres. I remember years ago, during small game season, my wife walking kids down driveway to catch school bus. A hunter, in weeds, was shooting at rabbits about 10 yards away from wife & kids. Wife let hunter know there were kids nearby, walking on lane. Hunter comes out of weeds and says, "We shoot rabbits ma 'me, not people." Needless to say, wife ordered the hunter off property. Hunter tramps off complaining about property not posted so he didn't do anything wrong.

I don't hunt. I don't like game. But, I have no problem with hunters as long they use what they shoot. They should also respect the property rights of others and obey safety rules. Still yet today, if folks ask, I give permission to hunt. I just want them to follow rules and stay away from house and lane.

Cheers....Coffeeman

Hi CBF....ya know, I've always enjoyed a healthy intellegent debate, no matter the subject or whether I actually knew what the heck I was talking about /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif....to me its just fun and stimulating. Problem is that some folks just can't handle debate without their emotions getting in the way and muddying things up. In real life its easy to pick and choose who is a good candidate for serious discussions and whose gonna get it a huff about things...we learn that over time I suppose. Much harder to do on the internet when our comments are broadcast simultaneously to a much broader audience. If we're going to post comments that have even the slightest possibility of being construed as controversial, then someone, somewhere is going to take that comment to task. There are even folks on the net that do this sort of thing on purpose, "baiting" others into emotional confrontations for some kind of perverse kick. I would love to be able to debate politics, religion, economics, you name it, on the net...but it just doesn't seem possible without peoples emotions getting in an uproar. Heck, its hard enough to do when face to face with someone.

I've read your posts on hunting, and as a hunter I wasn't offended by anything that you'd written, and in fact saw and appreciated the humor in the posts. But thats just me...one guy out of over 20,000. Odds are that theirs quite a few among us whose passions on the subject perhaps run deeper than my own. Point here is as long as you continue to bring it up, the more folks are going to take you to task on it....and I think you know that. Enough of this...I'm gonna go BBQ the critter of my choice now. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sorry, but if memory serves me correctly, Mr. Rogers has passed away. If you are offended by people expressing something that isn't from a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood script, you'd better get off the internet. You're not in Kansas anymore Toto. Some people are not going to be nice nor fair. Sometimes the offender needs to be offended.

I always believe in being cordial and use proper manners. However, I've never been one to be trampled, and I'm too old to change my ways. Have you ever heard the Charlie Daniels song "Simple Man"? There are some pretty good lyrics in that song.

Would it be better to sometimes "shut up" and continue to take it? Maybe. Will I do that? Never. I'll go out of my way to help you any day. I'll give you the shirt off of my back if you are in need. I'm the guy who will stop to help a stranded motorist. I'll greet you as "Ma'am" or "Sir". I'll always open the door for you and let you go first. I honestly couldn't possibly care less what your skin color is, what sex you are, or what god you worship. At stop signs I always let the other person go first if we get there at the same time. I don't throw anything out of my car window; not a candy wrapper, a bottle cap, or a cigarette butt. I've never parked in a "Handicap" parking spot even once. I've never parked my car in the fire lane at the grocery store - even if I'm only going to be in the store for a minute. I can't walk by and do nothing if a man is physically assulting any woman. And, in general, I'll even not say anything if you are rude to me in return. That's just the way I was raised, and the way I am. But, if you cheat me, screw me over, harm my family, or steal from me, well...you know how it will go. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Oh yeah, I'm Dargo, have a nice day! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I agree somewhat, Cityboyfarmer. If there is a problem with this wonderful community I think it is that negative experiences with any manufacturers is looked upon with great skeptiicism, frankly, well, I think its just not cool to say anything about bad experiences, just the good ones.

Now Dargo, why'd ya have ta bring Kansas in on that nice explanation? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Harv, I think there is something about being safe behind computer that makes people post things they would probably never say in person. Sorta like road rage, drivers get mad at each other in traffic, but the same people in a hallway will go out of their way to be cordial.
