Looking to buy a car hauler

That's the same basic setup I'm looking at...at least 20ft, 14K, but I'm seriously considering a tilt trailer with a fixed front section. They are just really convenient to have around!

I'm scratching my brain trying to think what I could put on that trailer that would max out or even reach its 14k GVWR.

Even if the trailer itself weighs in at 3000, that's 11,000 pounds of whatever you put on it. I'm all for buying more than you need, but is it really worth the extra money to go up from 10,000, or even 12000?

My tractor with loader weighs in around 5500 max. what are you guys fitting on a 20 foot trailer that weighs in at 11 K?

I'm not criticizing, just curious. Anyone know what the current general price jump is from 12 k to 14 k axles?

I occasionally need to haul things like a Bobcat Skidsteer which weighs about 8,200 lb, sometimes a 9,000 lb 1 ton vehicle that breaks down, or a 8,000 lb mini excavator. All of these 8-9K vehicles are at or over the limits of a 10-12K trailer. I only have a 7k trailer so I've had to borrow a trailer at times. There's also the bigger machines, small dozers and loaders in the 14 - 15k weight range that need a 20k trailer.

I was just looking at trailers this week for hauling my water on. At the local shop the price difference between a 16' with 10,000# capacity and one with 14,000# capacity was $50.

Even if you are t right at max capacity, it's nice to have the extra capacity of the 14k brakes.

How much does your trailer weigh? My current tractor runs around 8k w/o any implements and if I ever upgrade to a m95xx I'd be looking at 10k

Nice decision on the fold up ramps, they're much more convenient than slide ins, plis they likely have support braces to keep the front of the trailer from lifting as undrive up.

Sounds like a good trailer, 14K and brakes on both axels and 20+ feet is the way to go. Post some pics when you get it.

Well the guy I'm buying the trailer from had some 18' 10K trailers and the 20' 14K. The price difference was about $600 more for the bigger trailer. My Brother-in-law has a skid steer and some other heavy equipment, plus what if My F-350 breaks down?? Maybe between the both of us we'll get to the 14K

I didn't realize the price jump was so minor. I'm in the market too and I've been shopping around. My current 16' trailer has dual 3500lb axles. But mine is more of a utility trailer made with angle iron, and every time I load the tractor on it, I cringe thinking that I'll bend the frame. At 5500lbs, I'm maxing out the 7000lb GVWR as it is (it weighs 1500). I think that, had I bought a car hauler style with tube construction, it wouldn't be as bad, but I bought it back when I had a 3000lb tractor and thought it was strong enough. My mistake.

It's amazing to me the price jump from 7000lb trailers up to 10k... I figured the price jump was similar for the 10k to 12k, and again for the 14k.

I'm leaning towards a 20' trailer 10k GVWR or maybe 12k. I believe the 10k axles are actually 5200lb each, making it more like 10,400lb GVWR. So if (my guess) the trailer weighs 2400, that still leaves me 8000 useable weight, which is 2500lb more than my tractor with loader & bucket.

Besides, my F250 is only rated around 10k lbs from the bumper anyhow (14000 from gooseneck I think).

What I was told was,Those 5200 lb axles change/increase with a different tire and wheel combo ie 5200# axles with 235-85-16 tire / wheel combo is rated for more vs a 225 -75-15 tire / wheel combo with the same axles
