I forgot to mention that this buyer is the high end "factory" in Vietnam, I have met him many times in the yards, the container this tractor went into was one of twenty, not one of them ran.

I know I am crazy but this is the junk I buy for my customers. This tractor is the norm for us and is as it was, untouched straight out of the container. Did I mention it is the same price as the VN models at the dealer down the street.

I'm confused, are these pics from the US or Japan? I had always heard tractors were shipped directly to Vietnam from Japan for reconditioning.

All the junk tractors are pics from Japan. I am there one week every month and get a first hand look at what is being sold where. The pic of the 1610 is at my lot in the US.

The new trend I am seeing in Japan is the Vietnam buyers are no longer building a second floor in the containers. Normally a container has a upper floor built inside with metal or wood so you can get two levels of tractors. 8 to 10 on the bottom and 8 to 10 on top. Not building the upper deck saves a couple hundred dollars a container. The guy loading takes one tractor and sets it right on top of another tractor then shoves it in the container. The tractor above smashes the tractor below. Sometimes they stack the smaller tractors 3 high. I will get a picture next time I see it. It is hard to believe. I asked where they would get new hoods, fenders and dash panels to replace the smashed ones and the buyer said "we will pound them out". Nothing like slave labor!

No pictures I can show or reality I can put forward will stop VN shoppers from telling me I don’t know what I am talking about. People believe what they want to be true far more than is true.

Those are some amazing pics. Those units would make Fred Sanford proud. Makes you feel sorry for the uninformed innocents who buy those VN units. Makes me glad I did my research and bought from a reputable dealer (LMTC). As for those that do there research and still take the VN plunge...good luck I guess.

I figured you must have been in Japan. Most of those junkers still have mirrors, so they couldn't have been destroyed in the US and then shipped out.

I believe I have a VN Recon in my shop right now. I just torn the front end down, it was leaking. When I first opened it up I noticed the seal area had been built up with brass and sanded back down, really not a bad job. BUT inside I found where alot of the shafts were galled and the inner edges were pretty mangled from someone "muscling" out a bearing race. The seals that needed replaced had been installed wrong. The spring that keeps the inner lip tight had been smashed by the bearing. Why didn't it leak when new? Or should I say "new".....because the gear cases were filled with some unknown oil...VERY thick. Smelled more like licorice than anything else and was a dark brown, it was clean, all but the large amount of shavings in the bottom from the bearings riding on the galled shafts. The thickness of the oil was more like cake batter than anything else it would not even level out when it dropped on the floor. I could put it in a pan and hold it upside down it would take approx 10 secs for it to start to form a drop...
Oh and this unit ONLY has 56hrs on it.....Nice paint job though.

Yeah, mine did not have anything in the front except for grease. Ran it for 20 hours like that. Funny thing about grease, it does not puddle like 90 wt. Can't get that new paint dirty...

Did you save that oil? I have a Subaru with a front seal leak, might be **** on the filter though.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
