I am starting to look at UTV's for my 10 acre property. It will be used for 80% work and 20% recreational. I live in upstate NY on a very steep piece of property. I have a JD 3720 with a loader and a JD X740 to mow around my house. Therefore I don't believe I need a automatic dump. Both my wife and I need to be able to drive it. She is 5-3 and I am 6-3 and 300lbs. I need it to be stable on hills since my grand kids will be in it at times.

I originally wanted one of the mid size ones so I can get it in my garage. I sat in the Kawasaki Mule and the Polaris 400/500 and my feet barely fit along we my knees being very cramped. So, I need to go bigger. I did fit in the Polaris 800 but they seem very expensive. BTW, who makes the diesel engine for the Polaris? I did like the tilt wheel on the Polaris. Are there any other manufacturers that have a tilt wheel?

I need to look at the RTV 500/900 from Kubota. The zero percent financing is tough to beat.

Since I own two John Deere's I will give them a hard look. I do like the fact that the seats slide back. My salesman said you can actually change the seat system to get more leg room. Has anyone heard of that before? I am going to look at the 625I along with the gas and diesel HPX's. I wish the Gators had a tilt wheel.

Comfort and stability are the most important traits I need. Utopia would be a sliding seat and tilt steering wheel.

I have read numerous posts about UTVs here but would love to hear feed back on my situation.

Thanks
Bob

We have very hilly property in the WA Cascades. Our JD diesel 6x4 has been a tough, reliable machine for all kinds of tasks for 10 years, BUT, the CVT drive-belt system has proven to be dangerous when hauling/towing big loads down hills. Any of the Mules, Gators, Rangers, etc have the same basic problem- the CVT clutch will allow them to "free-wheel" unless you do a hold-the-brake-while-giving-it-some-throttle ballet.
If we were to buy another machine for working our place, it would be a Kubota RTV 900 or 1100, without question. (we have test-driven all of the competition at ag shows and at friend's places).
Hope this helps!

I like my RTV 500, the whole family can drive it safely.

I think anyone considering a Kubota/UTV might want to learn about how to decipher the D.O.M in the V.I.N. :confused2:

Some of those things can sit on the lot for years; my experience was that they wouldn't come right out and state the year it was made up front, it is hidden unless one knows where to look. Sure, it was "new" but it was made in previous years.

But thats just my opinion.

I am pretty sure Yanmar makes the diesel for Polaris. I am in the market too and like the RTV 1100 so far.

We have some pretty steep hills on our property here in RI. The only machines I send up and down the hills to haul, tow or work are the Kubota RTV's due to the hydrostatic transmision and four wheel braking. It's nice to be able to let off the fuel pedal and have your machine automatically slow down, great transmission. We had an EZ GO Workhorse go off the road coming down the hill loaded with firewood due to it having rear drum brakes only, it was not enough to stop it. The RTV's have done everything we have thrown at them on our farm and I also should add they plow snow like tanks.

I have an '09 polaris ranger xp. I use it around our 60 + acres of mountainous terrain to hunt, fish, ride and cut wood. The stability is awesome. All around it has been a good machine. Now they have the 800 with power steering. Check out the HD with 800, power steering and self leveling rear shocks.
My neighbor has a Kubota RTV. I must say, it is a nice machine. More for work than play. The ranger seems to me like an all around good machine. For play and work.
Last year we brought it to Hatfield McCoy for a week. It performed awesome.
If you saw some of the hills I climb and go down, you would not even ride with me.
Good luck in your search

We have had a Deere HPX diesel for a couple years. My wife, my 13 year old son (with supervision) and myself have no problem driving it with the sliding bucket seat. We have found it more useful than we expected for moving mulch, dirt, gravel, leaves, and much more. The HPX is tough and a workhorse. It is also fun to ride. The HPX and XUV models have 4 wheel brakes so they are very controllable going down hill, especially if you keep some throttle on to take advantage of the engine braking. The HPX with 4 wheel drive and locking differential can go most of the places we have tried. The HPX weakness is limited ground clearance making it possible to get stuck and the rigid rear axle that gives a rougher ride. The XUV is better in both areas. I would suggest getting the power dump. It is faster to move materials in the gator than a tractor and the gator is much easier on the lawn.

I just bought the Kubota 1140.. I was torn between that and the 900.. the biggest thing that made a difference for me was the 4 seats.. being able to take 3 others around with me has already paid off.. my ranch is fairly hilly, about a 500 foot deviation in elevation. its only a month old, but I am extremely happy so far.

and I am 6'4" and 325 and I fit fine in the cab.. i could use alittle more leg room, but its by no means uncomfortable.

I took advantage of the 0 down and 0 interest as well.. its hard to beat free money.

btw since this is my 1st post.. howdy..

I believe that Club Car ( if it's not club car, than it is one of the other golf cart companies that do. ) makes the new hollands, case, husqvarna and I think one or two others. I haven't had the privilage to try the club car made utv's but I like the looks of them.
