The John Deere 3 series might fit the bill for you.

Take a look at the Mahindra if you have a dealer close by. I was looking at the 3301 and 3901 Kabota before I bought my Mahindra. It was less cost and more weight and power too.

Y'all are about to convince me to keep what I have; a good, reliable tractor with only 1150 hours.
Best thing about it is that it is paid for. :)

I have gone through this phase before. Each time, I look at the compacts and decide I just wouldn't be pleased.
Last time, even my wife said, "You better keep your tractor. You don't want a toy like that."

If it is working don't try and fix it....

I am always disappointed with my sub-compact when it comes to trying to put the power to the ground. Like you a lot of time running old iron and this new stuff just isn't the same. HST is nice but unless you are doing a lot of speed and direction changes certainly not needed.

I agree that 30 HP will be too small, especially coming from the larger tractors you're used to. I'd recommend checking out a Massey 1749, 1754, 1758. Feature packed, highest quality, excellent warranty, reasonably priced.

Since your main uses will still be mainly "farm" chores, you can go with their PowerShuttle option... And if you want HST (I'd prefer HST) I find that the HST pedal position on the Massey is more comfortable for me than Kubota's "rocker" pedal. (Individual user preference).

Best of luck
