Trouble with a .22 is the grandson's will look at you very disappointed like because YOU CANNOT GET ANY AMMO!!!

Boy!, I saw that one coming a country mile away!

It's a lot better than it was a year ago. Most mail order suppliers have 22LR's now.

I actually prefer something a bit larger (than a 22) but anything larger (than a 22 or 177 pellet) and there isn't enough squirrel to cook.

Yup.

The "air gun community" is all in the rage of .25, and "big Bore" .30 and up. But it's a passing fad that is better served with fire arms.

Of course, a gentleman with a large calibre rifle would be barking squirrels to save the meat.

Stick with the back deck plinkers, they are the most enjoyable!

I'm on my second Benjamin-Sheridan "Blue Streak" in forty years. The first one had the solder barrel separation issue that old grind mentioned. In the 5mm (20 cal) pellet it is a sure kill and accurate at 50-75 feet. Recently I had this second rifle serviced by the local rep for $35. It's not quiet if that is a factor; and eight pumps takes some muscle.

IIRC it was SPIKER that saw the solder give way.

A pal is in his second Sheridan .20, uses the 14g conicals (more 'coke bottle' than wasp-waisted), and has taken serious game with head shots that I'd never equal (adult 'chuck at 25yd, 20lb 'coon at 15yd). He used it a few times to dispatch his catch when trapping (coyote, fox, 'coon) 'ti' he got braver and better with a club. IIRC the 14g conicals chronied in the mid 500s fps range during break-in. IMO the only downside with multi-pumps is starlings or whatever spooking at the snap of pumping after a few shots. Can take days to sucker 'em back in. :confused3:

Totally agree with what CalG said about keeping it simple & shooting off the porch for now with young 'uns.

Eddy, that's a nice looking rifle. tog

This is what I have and it's right on out of the box.
Optimus with 4x32mm (.177)

Wish I had seen that one before I ordered the new Beeman Sportsman RS2. It looks a lot lighter and easier cocking but still quite respectable power and great price. I really like that it seems to one of very few that DOESN'T have an overly-large and unnecessary muzzle brake. Anyone want to buy a brand new Beeman? $75 + shipping. ;-)
