I love my B2620, but lack of position control and loader lift height are getting old.
I found a clean looking L3240hst with the la724 loader for what I consider a decent price, has just over 800hrs on it but has been dealer maintained and mostly was used to maintain the gravel roads in a trailer park.

I think the L will be a good fit but I'm worried it will be a little big and heavy for some of my task, like brush hogging undergrowth in wooded areas and some turf work.

I was kinda set on looking for a B26, but they seem to be going up in price for a decent one and o would like a little more power for a couple pto implement.

The good thing is the L would allow me to also sell my skid steer, but I would be starting over with adding aux. hydraulics and needing to get turf tires for it.

I'm pretty much trying to do an upgrade without much financial outlay, just hate to replace the B and find out the GL is too big.
I like the std. L series but they lack a few amenities I want, and I really would like the HST+!
Decisions, decisions.

In December of 2018 I bought an L4240HSTC to replace the L3200HST. I had built a cab for the L3200, but decided it would be nice to have more HP, lift capacity and A/C. I was a little concerned about the increased size and ran both of them for nearly a year before selling the L3200. The position of the tractors in the picture below makes it appear there isn't much difference in size. with the L3200 in the forefront, it's a little like the pictures of hunters kneeling behind their trophies to make them look bigger than they are in real life:)

It gave me plenty of time to compare them. The bigger tractor handles better than the smaller one. It turns sharper and is way more comfortable to operate. See the post below.

You're right about the HST+ trans. That is a great feature. I plowed snow yesterday and the capability of having the throttle work with the hydro pedal suits me for that. I road it to town to do our church parking lots. The HST+ lets me pull out from stops in H Turtle and bump it up into H Rabbit after it starts rolling.

For mowing I bump the throttle to whatever PTO speed does best at the time and then use the hydro pedal for motion. It easily runs a 90" RFM. The R4's don't tear up the yard.

Thanks for the input!
I think going from a std. B to a GL might be a bit more of a jump though, heck the front tires on the GL are almost as tall as the rears on thr B! My biggest worry is the additional width and maneuvering in some tight spots. The plus side is most of my implements can be used with a larger machine, except the box blade and possibly the york rake.

I want the wider turf tires but can't find info on how wide it makes the tractor overall, (the 44x18 titan turfs, not the super wide galaxy).
Maybe the narrower 41x14 turfs would be better but would lose some flotation which I need with the added weight.

all I can say is that it is surprising how sharp a grand L series can turn. I went from a b7800 to a l4740 and I haven't looked back since. the cab is great in the winter but I can see where people say it is bigger because it is quite a bit bigger. I had to put in a taller garage door and with blower on the back it barely fits in my 20ft deep garage including bucket and loader. If I drop the bucket outside I can walk around the front of the tractor with the garage door closed.

I can see where an L series would be too big for lawn work and maybe in the woods depending how close together your trees are but then it is just another excuse to cut wider trails.

I went through 4 tractors on my way to the GL. One was a B7500 that I had for 10 years. A little seat time and the 4240 feels much smaller than it really is.

They don't seem huge being on them, I just know they are quite a bit longer, especially with the larger loader, and wider. I know my B26 barely fits in a lot of areas so the L won't be fitting.

Does anyone have a width measurement outside tire to outside tire with either the r4 set to narrowest width, or even better with the 44x18 turf tires?

Just an FYI on the Grand L40 series. There are two different submodels L3240 and L3240-3. The -3 models can be distinguished by the way the PTO is engaged. The older model uses a conventional lever, while the -3 models use a yellow rotary electric switch for engagement.

If the mid PTO is of importance to you, make certain the tractor is equipped with the "internal" gear to drive the optional mid PTO. The gear can be added but requires a tractor split to do so. The mid PTO housing/output shaft/linkage can be added at any time and is simple to do.

The one I'm looking at is the earlier model with the lever, no mid pto but don't see me ever needing one so not too worried about it.

Any other difference between the earlier and later models other then going to the electric pto engagement?

Spoke with the owner today, should be going to look at it Monday morning.

My L3560 is the successor model to the L3240. R4 outside to outside width is 62".

My R4 tires never mark turf. Florida soil is porous sandy loam.

The /40 series of Grand L tractors are the ultimate Grand L models without Tier IV pollution controls installed.
