Once those dogs get a taste of blood, they are changed... If it gets out again, it will be back.

If my dog was on someone elses property and killed another animal and was shot by that property owner, I would be sad, but understand.
That being said, one reason why our dogs have "training collars" and are only outside loose while with us or in the fence.
What I do hate though is neighbors who leave trash out and dump food out behing their house and our dogs get "wind of it". Hard to make sure they stay on our property because they smell the food. My issue I realize.

Randy, sorry that I didn't see your post earlier. The wife and I feel you pain. We're very sorry for your loss.
Know how I would feel if one of my pets were lost in this fashion, it would be hard to put it in words. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Some pet owners are just plain irresponsible clods, otherwise their dogs wouldn't be roaming the neighborhood. And as I said at dinner if the dogs come back be ready for them. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Get yourself a liter of pop, empty the plastic bottle, screw the bottle on the end of a small caliber pistol and get the BH ready to go, tell no-one. The world will be a better place without them.

If you are recommending shooting the owner I think you might have something there! I would be hesitant to just shoot dogs on sight without knowing the individual circumstance. Even the best owners have accidents. If you have a known killer problem dog or dogs then eliminating them is probabaly the best thing. You can't save them all! You could be shooting a good dog with a good owner. If you could feel right about that then I do not like you!

Plus the fact that any dog (or any animal for that fact) deserves more than just a small handgun cartridge (for a "quick kill"). Added to the fact that a "plastic bottle" acting as a "silencer" (I've never screwed one on, but did use duct tape) can alter your aim.
If you have to worry about shooting your firearm, you shouldn't be shooting it.

Yes, if I have to shoot one I will use my .44 mag rifle with hot expanding round "minimum" to heart or head. I won't use a silencer which is very illegal by the way! If I have to shoot a dog on my property it won't be a secret! I will let everyone know what I had to do and why I had to do it. I will be very angry at those who caused me this grief.

You would be surprised that in many states, as long as you file the proper paperwork and pay the nessesary (sp?) fees, a silencer is very legal.
Have no problems shooting a dog if need be, but I will make sure I have enough gun for a quick kill.

Sorry about your cat. Truly I am. This is all why I won't have another dog. In spite of the fact that I love animals and have had some great canine friends in the past. I can't see tying one up. A tied dog, to me is a waste of a beautiful creature. If that's what it takes too keep the animal 'safe', then you need to consider moving. While I certainly agree that they can't be allowed to destroy anyone's property, I just can't bear to see a dog tied or locked into one of those little kennels. Breaks my heart. It's a conundrum, for sure.

Very sorry about your cat. That's a shame. It's another good reason to make sure your neighbors know you and your pets. What I mean by that is, if my closest neighbor's dog came wondering over, I'd walk it home. But if a dog I didn't know came around and did anything even the tiniest bit threatening, I wouldn't hesitate to dispense of the threat, so to speak. I've always felt that it was understood to be the case...still a shame though. I don't know too many people that would enjoy killing a dog, even a threatening one...
