Lost best friend

You have my deepest sympathies. Golden Retrievers are great dogs, lost ours last November, one month short of 16 years old.

That's awful I know how it hurts to lose a buddy like that....I have had to lose 5 over the years and it is always such a hard thing to bear....they really are members of the family...I'm really sorry ...remember the good times...memories, how they linger.

Sorry to read of the loss of your Sofi. I have been down that road several times and it is not easy. You have my sincere condolences. After 13 years it is hard to say good by to your friend and companion.

I, too, am very sorry you lost your best friend.

All of us dog lovers who have gone through this know exactly how you feel.

I know it's not much right now... But only time will heal the sorrow you feel today... But even time won't take away the fond memories of the times you spent with your Sofi.

Take care, my friend...

The only really bad thing my dog did, was to pass away.

PS Here is what I found by Holly W.Gray

A "GOLDEN" GOOD-BYE

To our Golden Retriever, Shockoe

I sit and try to write the words, I want your heart to hear.
Hoping to find some comfort, in the fact that your not here.
I look out into the open field, that you once occupied,
Knowing now that field is empty, because my love, you've died.
I do believe with all my heart, that your soul has gone to be,
With all the other angel dogs, that you were meant to see.
We will have to stay behind, until God calls us too,
So do not be afraid, that he's only called for you.
The water is still, in the pond that you played,
And your bed is so empty, where your pretty head laid.
Our bed is to empty, where you once laid between,
the two people who LOVED you and now only dream,
That one day our eyes will shut one last time,
and you will come greet us, angel of mine.
Until then, I'll keep trying to see through my tears,
with memories you left us, to reflect through the years.
We'll never forget one minute we spent,
of loving and laughing, of places we went.
And I dread the day that your scent disappears,
for it's "proof" to me, Shockie, that you were just here!
But one day will come, when we'll start to see through,
the pain of the moment, and remember just "you".
Now you go and play, and look down when you can,
remembering we love you, and this isn't the end.

-Holly W. Gray, Shockie's mommy

I have a rescue yellow lab that our family adopted the day she was scheduled to be put down. The vet said she was probably a year old - but was already the best dog in the whole world. We've only had her 2 years - but already can't bear the thought of losing her. I absolutely understand the hole in your heart.

I found this a few months ago and thought I would share it with you and all the dog lovers on TBN:

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF DOG OWNERSHIP

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want from me. Do not break my spirit with your temper, though I will always forgive you. Your patience will teach me more effectively.

3. Please have me spayed or neutered.

4. Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.

5. Speak to me often. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when you're speaking to me. Your voice is the sweetest sound I ever hear, as you must know by my enthusiasm whenever I hear your footsteps.

6. Take me in when its cold and wet. I'm a domestic animal and am no longer accustomed to the bitter elements. I ask for little more than your gentle hands petting me. Keep my bowl filled with water. Feed me good food so that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding. By your side, I stand ready, able and willing to share my life with you, for that is what I live for. I'll never forget how well you've treated me.

7. Don't hit me. Remember I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting weak.

9. Take care of me when I get old. For you will grow old, too.

10. When I am old, or when I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusting life is taken gently. And be with me on that difficult journey when it's time to say goodbye. Everything is easier for me when you are there. I will leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands.

I am sorry for your loss, I have been closer to my dogs growing up than many people, and the heartache it brings when they pass seems much harder to deal with, not sure why, as I always thought it would be the other way round.
When I loss my best friend years ago I wrote a tribute to him right away and it seemed to help. Now days I look back at it and recall all the good times we shared. I keep it in my bible with his picture.

I wish to thank you for being there, you have always been there to brighten even the worst of days. When friends and family desserted, you remained.
I wish to thank you for the love and companionship you have given me for the past 11 years, you taught me allot about true friendship, about honesty, and loyalty.
You never asked for much in return, just a pat and a hug, but I always wanted to offer you more. You have always been by my side, wether in the gargage wrenching, washing my bike, birdwatching, fishing, jeepin, and oh so much more.
The time has come for us to say goodby, this cancer has consumed you and we cannot stand to watch you suffer, you put up a tremendous fight, and although even today, you seem like you could continue on. You have been too good of a friend my boy.
We will meet again one day I hope, I will forever carry you deep in my heart for you are all that is good in this world. I love you Levi Garret and always will. You go on now and chase those d a m bunnies to your hearts content, and on a cool evening when the sun sinks low, keep your ears pitched to the wind, for that will be me crying your name and yearning to have you near. I will sadly miss you my friend.

It seemed to have helped me some.

One thing for sure though, when I pass I wanna go where they are!

There are few days worse than the one you say that goodbye. Sorry that day has come upon you.
