Lots of black smoke on B7800

The Kubota dealer had no probelm at all with me using Mobile One as engine oil.

Maybe you guys know more then we do. Please explain again so I can double check with Kubota.

Diesel engines run at a much higher compression than gasoline engines. A typical gasoline engine has a compression ration of 10:1 while the typical diesel compression ratio is 20:1 or higher. The diesel burns fuel through compression and the gasoline burns by ignition. You must use an oil with an API rating of C (Compression) in a diesel. Gasoline engines use API rating S (Spark). Use exactly the proper weight and API rating as listed in your owner's manual. Use a gasoline motor oil and you will destroy that diesel engine.

It sounds like the dealer may have assumed that you put in Mobile 1 5w40 Turbo Diesel oil instead of gasoline 5w30 Mobile 1. From what I have read, Mobile 1 doesn't make a diesel (C rated) oil in 5w30.

If you still have one of the oil containers, take a look and see what rating it has. If it's S rated, drain the oil and change the oil filter ASAP and put in a good C rated oil.

That's good advice. I checked a jug of Mobil 1 5W-30 that I use in my Corolla, and although it says "For Gasoline Engines" in the starburst on the front of the jug, on the back of the jug it says "for API service SL, SM/CF". I checked Mobil's website and it doesn't list the CF service classification for 5W-30, although it does for several other viscosities (5W-20, 10W-30).

I actually used Mobil 1 10W-30 for one oil change in my B7800 (owner's manual calls for CD, CE or CF), but I switched back to Rotella 15W-40 to play it safe.

I run 5-40 Rotella in everything including my Western Star. Big truck, farm tractors, lawn mower, roto tiller, outboard motor, portable generator, pressure washer, anything with an internal compustion engine.

I'm thinking of trying some on my wife as well.......:D

I will change the oil over to Delo 15W-40. Sort of a waste of really expensive synthetic oil but my mistake....

Thanks!
