Snow Lots of snow to move

/ Lots of snow to move #61
Snow just keeps coming with no end in sight. It has snowed here for the last 12 days and the weather man says it will continue for the next 7 at least. So far we are about 110 inches. Still looking to find out who the county plow driver is. I know he waits until he doesn't see my flasher on the tractor then makes his run....... Must admit, when the windchill drop to -25 or so, I did need to put a light coat on and the heater couldn't keep up with anything that blew on the windshield. It froze instantly and I needed to scrape it a couple of times so I could see where I was going.

Still looking to find out who the county plow driver is.

If there's only one he must be quite busy! ;)

Up here basic road clearing is contracted out by the county, this way they don't have to maintain a large fleet of plows. However the major clearing (blowing snow off the road and/or trucking it away) involves county equipment working along private operators. County usually provides graders which few contractors own since they are so expensive to run unless you work them year round. County also owns those little but powerful Bombardier tracked vehicles used to clear sidewalks and other cramped areas. Those things are only the size of a compact car yet sport 125hp diesels. Talk about major torque, they eat monstrous EOD's like it was ice cream. Some private operators also have some.

I gotta how one of those! Wife would be flashing lights at me to come inside. I also took some daytime pics......

The weather man changed his forecast, looks like I am going to get a couple of days without any new snow fall........

I gotta how one of those!

They are very versatile, you can fit them with either a plow or blower in front and they often pull a salt/sand spreader trailer that appears to have a couple tons load capacity. They can even be used to pull a stuck tractor x times their size out of trouble. If you're after the more lucrative city/town contracts you have to have at least one. Despite their size they are very heavy and virtually unstoppable. Some use them in summer for pulling stumps and general landscaping but I was told they require some sort of temporary mod for this purpose.

On the other hand they are costly and consume an inordinate amount of fuel which makes them a luxury for private residential use. :(

Nice place you got there, my kind of setting. Nice house, trees, plenty of parking space and peace, royal peace. :)
