ray66v - Thanks for the information re cold starting. Due to my nebulous last post, I was referring to trying to getting in touch with the force, not so much the cold starts, but your info is helpful none the less!

I can cycle the glow plugs 30-45 seconds 2, or 3 times, doesn't seem to make a difference when its cold, just chugs and sputters, so I use the bock heater (like today) and no issues.

ray66v's information sure did help me about 12 years ago for my MF starting in coldest weather...

I did not know about cycling the grow plugs 2 or 3 times, and I was not giving enough throttle, about half way worked for me.

The MF block heater does work great and with the coldest weather starting there is no more sounds like loose nuts & bolts in the engine.

My manual actually recommends HALF to FULL throttle setting on "normal" starts. So, cold weather starting would be more like full throttle. :confused3:

I would try it, if all else failed. But, I would be ready to pull the throttle out as soon as it fired.

My "normal" start is like most people, throttle closed.

I used to have a mower that had a Mitsubishi diesel with 4,000+ hours on it. It was really tough to start, especially when the weather was cool, because the compression was low. So, I learned a lot from it.
