I have an old 530 Case backhoe that needs some attention. The hydraulic pump that drives the backhoe and loader cylinders is mounted on the front of the machine. It is connected to the tractor by a 1 inch shaft that has 6 spline ends on each end, as well as on the pump shaft itself. The coupler between the pump and shaft is worn really bad and I can't seem to find a replacement. It's a Lovejoy type coupler that fits the splined shaft and I can't find one anywhere. Any ideas where I might find one. The case dealership couldn't even find the backhoe on their computer so they're no help.

Nothing high tech. I'm wondering if it can be done with just a straight coupler like in your link.

Looks like a regular Lovejoy (with the rubber missing) to me. Try a bearing supplier...

None of the bearing suppliers in out town have anything like it. It's the splined shaft that seems to be the problem. They all look at it like it's off the Mars rover or something.

I think I may have found something..!! I'll let you double check, and you can go from there. Here is a link to a site that has all kinds of info for your 530. Specs of all kinds, and manuals you can download for free.

Case 530CK - Tractor Specs

When the page opens, click on manuals in the left column menu. When the next page opens, scroll to the bottom where the parts manuals are located. If memory serves me correctly, go to the section that contains page 67. Scroll down a few pages, or look in the listing what page the pump is on... It shows your pump and drive, and has part number. Shaft number is D30569, Coupling shows A35558. I Googled that number and came up that it interchanges to Case D140524. Coupler appears to be around $54.00.

I Googled the shaft number as Case D30569 shaft. One hit showed that the shaft interchanges with Case part # D64311, which fits a Case 580CK, series B. I went to Case Construction, and looked up the 580CK series B.

I Googled the shaft number, and came up with a new aftermarket shaft for $43.00.

Also saw one site that lists them where I bought parts for my 480C, and they have great prices. Remanufactured Transmissions, Torque Converters, Engines - Joseph Industries

You can always type these part numbers into Messicks, and check the price, then compare shop online, or call Joseph Ind, and compare.

If you call Joseph Industries, more than likely you will speak with Bill Pingley. Heck of a nice guy..!! Tell him Dave from Carroll, Ohio told you about him, and Joseph Ind. He'll know who you are talking about. Of course he may charge you double too..!! Don't think thye are open on Saturday though.

If your Case dealer has these parts in stock, should be pretty easy to compare...

Hope this helps..!!

If space permits, grind the ears off of the 2 pieces and get a compact U-joint welded to the 2 splined adapters.

Another (KISS) method is to use, say, 3" length of correct ID hydraulic hose and firmly clamp to the two shaft ends. The hydraulic hose will flex sufficiently to act like a U-joint and handle those slight alignment variations.

You'll have to look in the parts catalog under the 32 loader & 32 backhoe on the right. Then look at section with pages 61-80. Then page 6, or just scroll down like 6 pages, or 3 clicks using the Adobe page turner... Pump and drive on left side of page.

I have a 530 also, and my pump coupler was also toast.
I just went to tractor supply and they had the rubber part that goes between the two metal parts. My metal parts were worn, but no way they would come off, I think it should be OK with the new rubber.
Surplus Center sells these couplers, they may not be exactly right,
you might need to rig one to fit..

I've looked at the Lovejoy site before with no luck.

DJ54, thanks for the link. That is not what's on my backhoe. Looks like mine has been altered. My shaft ( on my backhoe ) is just over 14 inches and has 6 splines on only the ends. There is also a steady bearing closer to the pump end that I'm thinking someone added on. So now I'm wondering why it's been changed. I think my options are 1. Trying to find another Lovejoy type coupling that has the 6 splined opening. 2. Use a solid coupler like then one in the parts manual, but with 6 splines. 3. Try the hydraulic line splice. This seems the easiest if it will hold.

Nimblemotors, my couplers came of easy enough but they look pretty beat up so I don't think just putting in a new insert would work, at least not for very long. Interesting that you have the same coupler though. Do you know if your shaft is 6 splined?

Mine is just like yours, about 14 inches, 1" diameter, and 6 splined on the ends. The previous owner replaced the rubber part with some metal he made!
It chewed it up pretty good and it was as loose as you can imagine before, with the new rubber it is pretty tight now, I think it'll be OK, but who knows, haven't tried it yet.

I've looked at the Lovejoy site before with no luck.

...................................................?

Have you talked to a lovejoy representative, I don't mean some parts jokey standing behind a sheet metal covered counter, thou some of them are very knowledgeable people, but you have a special coupler, the parts # is on it and A FACTORY rep can help you, they have always come through for me. It might take a while and the hose patch is a solution for low torque and low speed but not a lasting one for anything else.

I went back to the Case Construction web site, and found your coupler. It is on a model 31 loader, which was used on several model tractors. I saved the picture below of it. The complete assy. ( 3 pcs., 2 splined ends, and rubber flex joint) part # is D29617.

It says the flex joint has been upgraded.

I searched Messicks Case IH parts, and they list one for $89.94, but none in stock.

Case construction web site advises contacting dealer, to check on upgrade replacement.

Since you now have a good part number to go by, maybe they can find something, or tell you it is NA.

Being Messicks at least shows a price, I'd give them a call, and see what they might find for you...

Here is the link for Case Construction, if you've never visited it before.
CASE

Place your cursor on "parts & service", then click on "search for parts". On the next page that appears, click on the yellow " launch parts catalog". Enter "31" in the search window, for model, then select "31 loader". Below 31 loader, click on "Figure Listing". Go down to page 010- pump drive, and click on it. Should be a picture just like I posted, complete with part numbers, in description below.

Thanks for everyones help, especially DJ54.

So I've got the two parts in hand standing by the window for the best light, with a magnifying glass looking for a part number. Then it hits me. If I take the ends, which are identical, and put them on the opposite ends they came off of, they'll have enough surface that they should be fine with a new rubber insert. I'm sure that will get me through this dig maybe even last forever, who knows. But with all the info you guys have given me I'm sure I can find the part. I talked to a neighbor who works in oil and gas and he says that is a pretty common fitting for driving hydraulics, but the problem is in our area it's all young guys that don't know anything. He gave me a couple of company's to phone on Monday.

One thing I've noticed at our Case dealership is the staff is turning over constantly. The guys at the parts desk last week, I had never seen before. Something that surprised me looking through the classified adds lately is that a parts person is now a ticketed position. Either no one around around here is ticketed or the ticket doesn't mean didley.

Anyway thanks for all the help. I think I'm on my way now. I'll post when I find the part.

Train, I just ran across your post and after reading it I thought I have seen adapters at tractor supply to adapt from 6 point to plain and they have plain love-joy couplings, or turn yours down for adapters. just thinking out load.
