We only had thirty posts to set. But we couldn't use the tractor because they'd just sodded it. So we had to do it the hardway. Of course here we had sandstone and the best way to drill in it is with a truck where you can get lots of down pressure.
I like my gate posts to be at least five feet deep. When we first started we couldn't cut the sand. It was packed too tight and the auger just wouldn't dig, just sit there and wear down sorta like putting them against a whetstone. But I kept changing teeth from my bag of tricks and finally came up with a combination that worked. It never got easy, but it got done.
Here's son in law. He's not too smart. He is an engineer with Worldcom most days but likes to play with me on weekends sometimes. I don't think he liked the old way as much as he does the new way with the tractor etc.
