Loving the Lx490 but have a concern that perhaps can be addressed

I got my LX4500 about a month ago. It's been flawless so far. Tractor has about 83 hours on it, and I've put 7 of them on myself in the last month. It's everything I wanted, at a fraction of the price of a green or orange tractor.

I posted some pics on page 2 about how I modified my 3 point lever for better ergonomics. That has been my only gripe so far.

That 3 point handle is looming as a a must solve in my mind. I have the dual hydraulics installed (haven't seen it yet) dealer is hopefully installing today assuming UPS delivers parts on schedule) but I have not seen even so much as a picture. I just know they will be in that opening just in front of the 3pt. It is going to be tricky doing anything fancy with the top n tilt and the 3pt in a coordinated way. So I am inspired by your do something about it approach. It will be a while before I do any topNtilt stuff. In the mean time I hope the 3pt doesn't aggravate me too much.

How long is your trailer? Mine is 18' with a 2ft dovetail included. I haven't had tractor loader bushhog loaded on it yet. You appeared to be overhanging a bunch. I have to tow mine 300 miles up I65 to get the tractor to its primary work location with occasional trips back to Huntsville Alabama. I want to work the tractor a bit without tire ballast before I have the rimguard installed (searching for bio ballast to save some money, saw something somewhere). Without the ballast I wonder if the tractor will have to sig even further back to balance the load. Just curious. I will work it out when I take delivery on the tractor.

My tractor has r4 tires and I would like to pull up along side your tractor and swap tires. I was amazed last summer at some holes I backed out of on my Branson (now sold) it had ag tires. I can see the r4s getting me stuck. That was really cool though. I was poking around the edge of a silted up pond with trees and undergrowth all around and suddenly wound up droping way over past where I would have intentionally gone. Stopped and considered carefully where I was and shuttled into reverse and surprisingly came out. The front ag tires were really digging.

New tractor paid for and all I can do is drive by the dealer and look at it. Oh well it is raining today anyway. Good thing I didn't get a cab. Now where was that bucket bar web site I saw the other day ......

Right side handle is $114. Went ahead and ordered the parts and I install.

Do you mean the plastic handle like on the left side that bolts to the fender ?

I ordered one for my LX410 ( because I too missed having something to grab on the right side ) from my local dealer......I think it was about 25 bucks. Either the handle on the 490 is a WHOLE LOT better handle, ( and I'm guessing they are the exact same handle ) or that price is way high.

I too need to get the step for that side. For any other new Yanmar owners, the right side step mounting brackets are already there.....you just need the step to bolt up to them.

There is some bracing that is needed to support the constant loads the handle will transfer to the fender. That is what drove the price to $114. I do not know what just the handle cost but it wasn't much. I considered just adding a washer plate behind the handle to handle the local stresses on the plastic but after grabbing the fender a few times I decided it might give up the ghost prematurely in a year or so I ordered the bracing also.

Mine appeared to already have the bracing for the step. Haven't seen the step yet.

What about the tire trade:)

Did you discuss an Ag tire swap with the dealer? My dealer was able to get my Ags but it took several weeks. In the end I think the dealer ended up getting another LX tractor delivered with the Ags and swapping them over.

My trailer is also an 18' with 2' dove included. It's "only" a 7000 lb trailer, and it felt pretty close to maxxed out with the trailer and all the implements on it at the same time. Truck didn't even notice it though :) It was hanging quite a bit off the back, and I too was on the interstate for about an hour, but it was fine.

Sorry, no dice on the tire swap. The ag tires was one of my must haves for a tractor. They sure do tear the chit out of the lawn when it's wet though. :confused3: lol.

Just kidding on the swap. felt sure you were not going to go for that. It was close to a must have when I ran into this deal. However there was a time when I thought I wanted r4 and now I am going to just enjoy the advantages and let it go at that. Not going to get unhappy about it.

OK gents -

Finally got out to the property to get some step pics......I had to do a little cutting/grinding/drilling to get it where I want it. The forward hole lines up fine, but you have to do some finagling to get the rear bolts secured...at least I did. The step seems to be just a tad higher then the left side, but still way better than no step. I just grab the steering wheel when Im hauling myself up. 499.jpg503.jpg
