Yep. He was all hunched over and Gladys said she had to pull him up out of bed each morning and rub down his joints with liniment oil to get him moving. He was a stout man, huge upper body strength, hands like sledge hammers with vice-like grip. Made a good living for him and his family. Three boys. One joined him in the business as I recall. I used to see them in the grocery store holding hands. Well into their 80's, he leaned over against her in church one Sunday, and died immediately. She moved away to live with her daughter and I never saw her again.

Two years ago I drove by their old house. His old dumptruck and cement mixer were still behind the house.

Surprised no one wanted the truck...

Did a crawl space digout and worst job ever...

Made it deeper where easier to access and then moved dirt to fill...

Lots of homes here have access through closet floor...

I want de mixer. Looks like old Jaeger continuous dat poured lot of city streets back in time some.

Tell wife you just parkin truck for a while cause you hadda use it to haul mixer fer me. She might believe.

Funny and all, but I had considered digging an access path with the BH to get under the wall and ... well, it was a passing thought. Big slope about 15' from the house where the path would have been so dirt disposal would not have been an issue. No idea how I would have shored up the opening and supported the wall. Some kind of steel beam I guess.
