i ended up with the family home+7 acres last year; and try to spend a couple days every other week there. when i went over march 5..someone had tried to break into the house, but luckily didn't get in or do much damage, one cracked window and some scratches on the back door. i turned in the information to the local police dept: but didn't even think about going out to the ole barn..well, i did yesterday; and dads 4ft corsicanna brush hog, his 5 ft disk, my 5ft disk, and a receiver hitch i had taken off an old chevy truck, are all gone. the only implement left was a 2bottom breaking plow, which i will chain to a tree the next time i go over, if its still there.

I know the feeling.

Several years ago I came home from work to find the house broken into. It had to be kids because they took my CD collection, emptied the wifes jewelery box, and took my last few beers. Never even touched the electronics or the bicycle sitting by the door. That alone had almost $1000 on it.

By a stroke of luck, my wife had dropped off all her family heirlooms as well as most of her expensive jewelery at the jeweler for cleaning and inspection of the settings. They did get a couple diamond and sapphire earings, probably never even new what they had.

The only thing they took of value (besides the 100 CD's) was a .32 caliber pistol her great uncle used when he ran a saloon in Chicago, I even had the original box and wax paper it was purchased with.

And I couldn't even have a beer while I waited for the sheriff. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I know around here the Meth problem has sure changed the landscape of rural life. Drugs had always been city and burb problem, but atleast around here drugs were not a huge probelm.
Some of the jokers that are wrapped up in meth are by very definition "low life scum".
I'd like to hope its a phase, but I'm not so sure......

Rural breakins really increased around here about 9 months ago. They were breaking into a person's barn and shop to steal what they could and then they were gone. The Sheriff knew, and some others of us knew who it was, but couldn't prove a thing. It was an organized group of 14-17 year olds, lead by an 18 or 19 year old.

I approached one of the slugs involved and told him that enough was enough, and that we would shoot to kill, ANYONE caught breaking into our barns or shops anymore. I stressed the "shoot to kill" EVERYONE part, and was as serious as a heart attack. Must have made a believer out of him and them, because just like a miracle, the breakins stopped immediately!!

I was NOT just mouthing that threat either!! I was pleased to see our "youth" using some "common sense" afterall!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

whoever these folks where, they where trying to do things, without drawing much attention..the back door could easily be kicked in..as any door can..or any window broken in the house..they even cut the chain that had the barn locked, and then tied it back together with some fishing line, so without a close look, it still appeared to be locked...thats why i didn't check the barn and area behind it, when i found the had tried to get in the house, i could see the barn was still locked..or so i thought..

heehaw,
Sorry to hear about your break in. I too was a victim of low lifes. Last year just before Christmas they took most of my junk electronics and they were so stupid they missed my wifes good jewels and took the costume jewels.
Most of what they took was breaking or broken so it wasn't that bad a deal, but what really chapped my hide was that they took all of my kids DVDs. I have sinced replaced them but it still ticks me off just thinking about it. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I would sure like to use LarryD's 32 on those pieces of, I better stop while I'm ahead. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Anyway, good luck and I hope you have better success with your police dept. than I did.

a friend of mine has a welding shop in town..a guy brought a trailer by a while back and asked him to do some repair work...a couple days later another guy stopped by and said thanks for finding my trailer, it was stolen a couple weeks ago.. they waited till the guy came back for the trailer and are now checking into his story about where he "bought" the trailer..if someone trys to sell something cheap, the first thing i think of, is its stolen...i wish others would do the same..then these low lifes wouldn't have a market for the stuff.

Seems w/ the weight of those implements.. it had to be more than one low life scum. Be safe.. maybe put in a deer camera.. they might be back.. could be good idea to bring another person w/ you on your next visit.. protect yourself!

"shot to kill"

I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6!

I might go to jail for a time, but the low life skum bag thief will not steal again.
