Has anybody found or are using something other than low viscosity HY-Gard hydraulic oil? I'm not willing to compromise on quality. Just wondering if anybody found a better hydraulic oil to use in John Deere? I searched archives it didn't give a definite answer.
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I would totally trust anything meeting
JD hy-gard, IH hy-tran, and some sort of
mil-spec (military) on the shelf at TSC or other like store.

But I know how you feel about JD for a JD or GM for a GM and so on.

As for coolant though, I couln't find anything labeled specifically appropriate for diesels so I bought John Deere stuff.

Most of the farm supply stores will have an equivalent oil. Just read the label. I have even asked at John Deere about it and they have all told me to use the same stuff that it's no different from the deere oil and this was coming from the dealer.

Does the farm places have low viscosity oil like HY-Gard hydraulic oil does.
My SSL requires low vis. oil ONLY and I haven't seen it at local farm places.
For no more than I use I just get the LV Hy-gard.

I just got off the phone with the Amsoil rep. and the gist was that synthetic amsoil thf cross references with the j20 c, d.

My price was about $60/5gal. plus $7 shipping

If money is no object check out Chevron All Weather THF. It not only meets JD20 C & D but also the viscosity requirements you are looking for. If memory serves Low Viscosity JD hydraulic oil is a Kinematic cSt of 7.2.

AT my last hydro change only JD and Chevron ( JDs oil supplier ) meet this viscosity requirement.

Last time I priced the Chevron it was $76.00 for a 5 gallon pail and it comes in a Kubota Orange color. But on paper it looks like the best THF available.

I use Schaeffer's Simplex Torque fluid which also meets JD20 C& D but not the viscosity requirements needed for Low-Viscosity fluid. The Schaeffer's $43.55 per five gallon pail but is harder to get than Chevron Check out www.Schaefferoil.com.

I ordered 7 pails of amsoil today for my three machines. the JD is getting it first, I'll tell you what I think.
