Thanks for that "Turbo diesel register..." thing. That's where i got the info that steered me to the JD 0W40 synthetic. Great oil and a good price.

I will search the BITOG thing in Google anad see what I can learn. Thanks.

Are you high? More and more PAYING sponsors are LEAVING BITOG since helen too over. Even Frank the beloved ARX has left...

The more I see the site, it is more driven to drive certain products.

I don't think so. I'm 60 years old and have done research on oil for my equip for 40 years. Used to seek out the old low-ash Amoco dino back when things were just getting going as far as oil was concerned. Have raced engines and street rods, taxed turbo farm equip and small ouboards and rarely had an unanticipated problem. Used to put STP in knee-action shocks on my 1937 Chevy coupe to hold things together.
Not sure about BITOG but my data comes from the spec sheets and testimony of others. Lots of smart guys on this board. Have learned to buy the best I can afford.

DieselPower--So phosphorus is more the killer of catalytic converters than zinc?

It's kind of hard to separate the two in engine oils. The Z in abbreviations like ZDDP is for Zinc and the P is for Phosphate (Phosphate is the most common form of Phosphorus). ZDDP stands for zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, a compound of zinc and phosphorus. It's actually the phosphorus that does the most damage to the converters but since it's part of a compound it's kind of hard to say that one is doing more damage than the other because they are both contained in the same compound. Don't think of them as separate additives but one and the same.
