Well you can put that sentiment to rest... not everyone can serve at the 'pointy end'. The mere fact that you signed on, not knowing where you'd be sent and under what conditions, is more than enough in anyone's book. If these companies are offering then there is no embarrassment in humbly accepting.

I completely agree.

Same here. In fact, I just got the paperwork to fill out yesterday for the DD-214 card. Need to set down, fill out the forms and send them to St Louis. Actually I never felt that I deserved a "military discount" since i never saw combat.....just my feelings in the matter.

Oh, forgot one last question Mike. How many funerals of military veterans have you sang at??? Now who's serving. :)

Everyone who served in the military, no matter the capacity, and meets the requirements to obtain a "military discount" deserves the discount. Otherwise the discount wouldn't be available to them.

Thanks for your insight gents and I sort of agree, but it seems that those non-combat vets....oh well....I can't explain it. The same idea applies to other benefits, such as medical and drugs. I've been blessed with good health and a decent income even into retirement. I don't feel like the American People owe me (in particular) anything. And "yes" i do sing in a choir at many a veterans' funeral. It's and honor to serve our Country and all its people. Heck, I gonna cry......Let's get outside to work.....the sun is shining ..............Yeah!!!

Cheers,
Mike

I have not served, but I would have if I had been called. It seems that school, marriage, kids and my age precluded me from serving in Vietnam, but I do admire all who served honorably in what ever capacity. If you are eligible for a military discount, please take it! With my blessing! Thanks for your service!

Hmm. They didn't issue me a card of any kind. Just registered my phone number after displaying a military ID. Now just recite my phone number. I'll ask next time I'm there.

If you're signed up for MyLowes, there is a place to request a card be mailed to you. I forget where it is, but you have to be signed in to your account. If you have the Mil Discount activated, it's automatic when the card is scanned.

I grew up around a lot of military... the SF Bay Area was at one time a Hub of military... lots of kids I went to school with had military parents that worked at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital...

As a kid... I always noticed a subtle difference between those that saw action and those that didn't... and I believe it was self imposed coming from the mind of a kid.

Dad and Uncle served and Dad was on the way to the Pacific theater when Japan surrendered... his military records show his WWII service but he never saw combat and left it at that.

Mom's best friend Lucy served as a Marine... didn't know they had women Marines almost 70 years ago... sweetest old lady you ever met but only later in life did I realize her service... and even later did I realize the first woman marine goes back to 1918.

My first job after college was at a manufacturing plant... the plant was very proud of hiring vets... it was important to them...
