Lowest prices always..FAIL

This season I have had the time to skop at the biggest reatiler here.They say Lowest prices always. Now maybe im picky but in my recient visit I found that the Tomato soup was prices at 31 cents more than the food store(nect door)I then found $2.18 sugar and it was 189 at the food store.Even campbel soup prices were higher.
I realize the policy is that they would match the price but I would have to get documentation from the food store with the prices.
Just seems to me that when you can get a gallon of the same brand milk at the food store for much les, and I alert them to the price difference and they reduce mine, that they would reduce the shelf price so the next person pays the reduced price.
Their policy really is underhanded in my thought..It used to be they wanted you to compare prices and tell them so they could reduce their to compete. But now make you have to ''work'' for the difference.
Oh did I not mention the can good s pears etc are mostly water compared to the food store brands?lol

Oh yes sure is.I can rememebr the ''tingle'' I got when it opened years ago. and was plastered with American Flags Amazing how times chage..And mind you where I live there arent many choices. In fact the closest cahian store is a 50 minute drive. When this store oened, the local K mart closed a year later.

To be fail Ive found a ''loophole' in this policy of adjusting the price .
Even in my local food market, I found milk was priced wrong and they would give the product(gallon of milk) and cash of 2 dollars. I would go tot he service desk and show the flyer they had and they adjusted it. I ASSUMED they would send someone back to change the milk orice to reflect their flyer price. But two days later it ws still high. so I didnt he same thing got the milk free and two bucks .The rest of the week I did this for 5 transactions we drank a lot of milk that week. but its was free and I made 10 bucks to boot.
Point here is they could aford that becasue as I was getting my free milk and two busks there was probably 5 or 6 people in the checkouts who didnt know or just dont check ..
So for the store much more profitible to do it this way and not adjust it down to what they had advertised it for...

x2, I haven't shopped there for years, don't ever plan on it again. Their products are crap, prices are high, business practices are deplorable, and I'm generally mad by the time I leave the store.

Oh, and on the price matching, they will price match on the 'exact same item'. Problem is them make the mfg's make things for them in slightly different sizes, styles, etc so no one else has the 'exact same item'. :thumbdown:

More than one type of store does that. You sure have to watch what you buy, all too common to see the item is smaller or less to a package and higher in price to boot.

Why would a consumer in their rite mind want to take their buisness away from the business that is treating them right and give it the buisness giving them the shaft? ? ? ? ?

UNREAL......Got up today to make my tradition holiday Fudge.got it all going then I grab my special Nestles chocolate bits and they seemed light , but use them anyways. the fudge came out 'pale'' I looked att he wrapper and it said it had 10 ounces.
usual package is more than that. Well apparently the Grinch struck the chocolate too. I almost feel as though we are going to have to back to the built buying.. These company's seem to really be st to shortchange us. Id rather have a price increase than to be 'jipped'' like this.

There should be laws and enforcement against misleading and outright false advertising. Today advertising is mostly misleading or false, any thing to make a sale. I'm sorry but I can't do business that way and I lose a lot of sales to competition who has no consience, but I still sleep well at night.

When this store opened, the local K mart closed a year later.

Corsicana, TX, not only had a K-Mart super center, but also a distribution center that made it one of the biggest (actually the biggest, I think) employer in town. And I think they put themselves out of business. The store routinely rang up higher prices at the register than what was posted, and the weird thing to me was so many customers complaining and the store managment did nothing to correct it. And K-Mart closed both the store and the distribution center, and that was before Walmart built a super center.

You have to be careful. Large stores like them put intentionally low priced (usually below cost) stuff in isles to make the prices look great. They call them "loss leaders". It's designed to make people think that all the prices are low when they are not. It use to work so well that people would look at the cheap item then decide they wanted the nicer model and just buy it without looking at the price. Now people are catching on.

yes Ultimatly its up tome to know what I am buying. but..Also bought my dad a package of oreos and they are smaller in legnth also.I got a kick out of some cookies ,like the chocolate covered cherrys they have more space in the packaging to look the same size yet have less over all in them.

Lately the big stores near me have upped the prices of their 'own brand' goods which are now higher than the famous brands, they also put the cheapest items on the bottom shelves and the most expensive at eye level.

Our Wal-mart is pretty good at matching prices, except on milk. They cannot beat the Aldi price. What I have noticed is in most stores I will always find a mistake after shopping. Most of the grocery stores will then give you the item free when he advise them of the mistake. Most grocery stores, but not all!!!

I agree with most of what has been said here. The problem i see is how do we convince others to start thinking again? Mostly it is about paying attention and shopping for value, not price. But this is lost on the average "consumer". Clearly marketing works and burning through the BS can be a huge time loss. Laws and enforcement are fine but would be unnecessary if everyone just decided not to take advantage of their neighbor. Greed is ingrained at this point though.
