LP Pressure is Pressure, or not?

you should be able to hook up anywhere AFTER the regulator since that controls pressure. We have our gas grill hooked to the main propane tank.

Tell me more! Long story short I was forced to pick a retirement gift and thought I was getting a Weber 3 burner...when the semi showed up with the pallet jack I realized I got a Summit 620 6 burner. It's a GAS HOG. Moved it to our house (under construction) and I piped LP out to my grilling deck where it sits next to my smoker. My LP supplier refused to hook it up...Weber customer service said NO...20 lb. tank only. Figure it out...regulator at the tank and then another when it enters the house...feeds a water heater, furnace (back-up heat) and boiler, then proceeds to our fireplace, then out to the grill stub-out...

I buy propane grills, and convert them to nat. gas for my home use

Coming out of the tank is a pigtail about a foot long that goes to the HP regulator. That 3/8" line may be able to be teed from to a fitting for the generator. Maybe the gas company wouldn't squawk?

Maybe I could hook up where the grill is, but then I would have to replumb the generator and I don't really want to do that because then it won't be as portable.

Dude, you need to consult your genset manual or the manufacturer's customer service. I am contemplating installing the conversion kit on mine and have done considerable research. The generator unit uses full tank pressure and has its own regulator. You need to tap in between the tank regulator and the tank valve and run the right size line/hose for your size generator. That 3/8 line may not be large enough depending on the distance and materials friction factor.
