Guys, you should know that the air filters are made to be blown out with compressed air for cleaning. No need to replace them unless the paper is torn or gasket is torn. They will last for many years if properly cleaned. Correct cleaning technique is to start by gently bumping the filter on the gasket end on your tractor tire to jar loose all the loose dirt. Then blow from the outside for top to bottom to remove the majority of dust. I then blow it from the inside a bit to see if any dust comes out. The owners manual doesnt say to blow from the inside but I like to past a little air thru from the inside anyway. DONT get your blow gun too close as you can damage the paper if you have 100 PSI on your tank and get really close. I like to stay about 6 inches away with the nozzle tip;

Hey Gary,

Yeah, my manual says the same thing about cleaning the filter with compressed air, but as you can see from the side-by-side picture of the air filters that the original filter is still pretty dirty even after I cleaned it. And I'm just now up to 50 hours. Like SG, my exhaust vents just below the air intake and something sooty/black is on the filter, but I don't think it's too blocked yet. I'll get a spare to have around in case I damage the original or it blocks up.

That sounds like the old Harley joke about the intake being too close to the exhaust issue.
Does your tractor have one of the little vacuum gauges with the green window that trips to red when the filter gets clogged. If not, you could probably install one easily if you can find them. My Chevy truck has one as does my P7010 tractor. Yanmar, NO.
I would invest in one if you dont have one. The soot may not be an issue with air flow but you wont know without some instrument letting you know when it starts creating too much vacuum.
I cant see them costing as much as a filter.

Thank you for doing my thinking for me. A good idea I should have come up with myself. Doh! It's going on this week's shopping list. I only had ten years to come up with that.

Never heard of them before, but just added one to my cart on Amazon. Now I just need to find something else to get me up to $25 so I can get free shipping. Thanks to both Gary and Kelly -- just what I needed!

p.s. Never heard the ol' Harley joke, but I can pretty much guess how it goes....

Lil' Blue - that filter looks just like the one I need!! I started with a Wix 46438 which slid on with a little bit of play and was about an inch too long. What did you end up findinng that fit? (46449 right?)https://plus.google.com/photos/1145...77197157851985/5686901054357576866?banner=pwa

My filter shown on left, with new 46438 to right - wix said they made nothing shorter. K&N said they could custom cut to length what I need - but I would like to find a correct ID gasket too!

Sorry for the slow response -- blame it on the holidays! I now have 2 of the Napa 6446 (Wix 46449) filters on hand, but haven't actually replaced original one yet. That said, I'm certain it's the right one.

Be very careful when purchasing the aftermarket Engine Oil Filters, the LS ones have a Built-In Relief Valve in the filter, some of the aftermarket ones don't and that has led to some engine failures.

That relief valve is a bypass for when the filter is clogged.

I picked up an oil filter for my G3033 at the dealer for $8.69.I didn't think that was too bad and was on the way home from work so I did.t have to go out of my way to get one.When they delivered my tractor they strongly recommended 1st engine oil change at 25 hrs,so tomorrow I'll do it.
