LS MT235E
So I was looking over the tractor after washing to see how much I missed and noticed the engine tag read >38 HP. So It got me thinking if that badge is correct wouldn't that mean the engine is over 38hp? It is the MT235e which I thought was the XG 3135 just a few things tweaked. Does that mean the 3135 and 235 are the same as 3038? I'm just really confused thinking the tractor is 35hp and 30 pto hp but if the plate is correct then it would be closer to 38/33 making it a little more capable with higher PTO hp.

I'm considering a 5' tiller but if it is closer to 40hp then I'll look into a 6'.

According to this site LS claims the MT235E has a 40HP engine and 34.4 PTO HP
MT2E Series – LS Tractor USA
The differences between the 3135,235E, and 3038 may just be how they are set up at the factory such as ECU and fuel management programming.
I've used 6 and even 7' implements on my older XR3037HC with less HP. IMO you could use a 6' tiller.

Yeah I saw that but when I looked under the specs after clicking on it the hp was listed as 35/30. I don't know which number I should be looking at.

Yes it does show MT235 shuttle 40 hp but that is a misprint it is actually 35 hp, you are not going to buy a 40 hp tractor for the price of a 35 hp.
I run a 5 ft tiller on my XG3135 in clay base soil (i have horrible garden soil) and have no problem cutting to max depth with it, it does do better if i bust the crust with a disk first.
I think i could use a 6 ft with my tractor with no problem but i do till in 4WD in a low gear. This little tractor is strong in my opinion and i have had a bunch of ractors

my 3037 has no problem with a double bottom plow or a 6ft tiller. It seems that traction is a bigger problem than power.

My 2017 XR4140H has R4 tires and my older 2WD 25 hp gear tractor had R1 Ag tires.
I recently replaced the dry rotted R1 tires after many years with new R1 off brand tires purchased on the internet. (I’m pleased how that experience turned out.)

Any experience out there changing tire types using the same rim?

I’d rather R4, but have R1 on my xr4140. Wife giving me hard time about rutting.

Horsepower on displayed on tractors is somewhat arbitrary. Can be engine gross horsepower or engine net horsepower, or something else. Kubota uses engine net horsepower. Model numbers must not duplicate model designations trademarked by other producers.

The number you should consider for PTO powered implements is PTO horsepower, the actual dyno measured powered at the tractor PTO splines after losses in the drive train on one representative tractor. Individual tractors may vary over published number 1-2 horsepower when new, perhaps adding another horsepower when broken in, then slowly declining as hundreds of engine hours are accumulated.

An exception are the ~~100 cubic inch <25.4794 horsepower tractors which have power reduced below the threshold to avoid Tier IV emission controls. Those had better test below the threshold or manufacturer can be fined billions of dollars, as VW found to its chagrin.
