I would have thought that the front drive shaft would be part of the powertrain but it wasn't covered. They said all external parts are not covered.I'd still take it to a dealer. Unless the dealer has already looked at it and diagnosed it as a glow plugs. And I still find it hard to believe glow plugs wouldn't be considered part of the power train.
Rarely are electrical items (think spark plugs )covered under powertrain warranty or any other warranty other than the original bumper to bumper time period.
I would look further into the battery, grounding and glow plugs as fault.
