You are entirely right 1stDeuce, the cylinders have enough travel that the tires will run into the tractor frame and/or loader frame where it attaches without the stops, so the stops are necessary to prevent tire rub, but maybe tire rub would be the lesser evil. With the tie rod not connecting the front tires, and the right front wheel not having any stops(or holes for the bolts), my right front steering cylinder did just that. The left front tire was pushed to the stops. Had to open up the hydraulic lines supplying the steering cylinders to push the tires back towards each other to reconnect the tie rod. I think(questionable) that the solution for me anyway, is to be more aware of how far the tires are turned, and once reaching full deflection, not to turn the steering wheel anymore. Sounds simple, but when maneuvering in a tight space, such as between trees with a log on the forks, or inside a barn, often your head is swiveling around to make sure the ends of the tractor are not going to hit anything, but after losing 2 days of work to this repair, lesson learned!
I have been very happy with my LS, and realize things break, especially when you are working the tractor hard. What has upset me with LS, is that they shipped the upper housing with the flange overnight on time, BUT only included the cast housing it self. The housing sits on a wheel bearing, and has an outer raceway pressed up into the housing, next there is a sleeve that holds the raceway in place, and lastly a rubber keeper/dust cover. All 3 are needed, along with a grease zerk at the top, BUT LS did NOT include any of those, which I can not understand?? Why would they not ship the complete assembly? If it is required for the job, include it! I was able to remove the raceway from the old housing undamaged and reuse it, and purchase a new grease zerk from NAPA(LS uses a 9MM fitting, had to tap the housing to fit a more commonly available 1/8 fitting rather than special order), since the old grease zerk had been cross-threaded into the housing. NAPA also had an O-ring that works for now as a dust shield, but I need to order the sleeve and rubber keeper from the dealer still. The reason I did not just go to a dealer to begin with for everything btw, is that the tractor broke in the woods, with the closest LS dealer being 4+ hours away. And when I spoke with the dealer I purchased it from, he thought everything would have been included, but he has not had this repair in his shop yet. Rant over, loaded 20 logs of spruce onto the trailer today, so all is good again.
