Pappy,

No cab for me.....too many trees. The open platform P series offering is 97HP only. I'm looking at the XU5065PS. Thoughts?

I think it depends on what you want to do with it. The LS is 65 gross HP and weighs 4,667#, while the T4.75 is 74 gross HP and weighs 5,886#. That is 1,200 pounds difference, which is a bunch. I'm not that familiar with the XU series, but if it's the same frame size as the U series, it's a somewhat smaller size tractor than the T4.75 (it's been a couple of years since I looked at either of them).

If the XU5065 has plenty of power for what you want to do with it, I think it would be a great tractor with a lot of useful features at a price that would be way cheaper than the T4.75.

But, if you're going to be pushing the XU to the limits of its abilities, or if you need a larger machine with more net HP or PTO HP, or just more weight for traction, you may find yourself disappointed in going with the smaller LS.

Many people buy a tractor and find they later wish they had gone one size larger. Don't make that mistake. It's expensive.

It's a real pity that LS doesn't make the P7030 in a ROPS model.

Oh, and whatever tractor you buy, if you are working in the trees, you will probably want a grapple. There are a lot of grapple threads on here with pictures and lots of good advice. You can't talk about grapples without someone wanting to spit, cuss and argue about something, but it's all educational.

I work around trees all the time with my cab... You learn the cab dimensions real quick, and then it's not an issue. Then, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of a cab. You could probably get into an LS P cab for the same price as the NH ROPS.

IF you're buying a tractor to work in the trees, why not skip farm tractors entirely and go with something industrial? Something with a 4post ROPS would be safer in the woods than open station.

TSO, thanks for the reply. Most times I'm a cross between Tim Allen and Lucy. I'll look at the 70hp cabs when I go. I like the idea of AC in the summer heat. Do you know if they offer a buddy seat option?

Pappy, I hope to get to the dealer within the next week. If the frames are a serious step down I may go up to the P. Youre right, go big or go home. :)

No prob. Once you get spoiled with a cab, you won't want to go back to ROPS!

And yes, I believe there is a buddy seat option on the P series

I have dealer about 45 minutes away from where we live. Im thinking about a small cab tractor as well. They look nice but I haven't been to the dealer yet to check them out

Can't go wrong with the Case or New Holland. LS makes a great tractor, but not on the same "level" as NH or Case
