What kind of warranty is it that if it's not made inhouse you are sol. There warranty is only half a## for 2 years. Extended warranty you can buy from a lot of places. I hate it when they call insurace a extended warranty.
what?

As an LS dealer I have never been declined for a repair I submitted for warranty. I have sold other brands of tractors and LS is the only manufacturer I can say this for. A good rule of thumb for powertrain warranty is internal parts, or anything bathed in oil. This would include the case itself, seals, bearings, axles, ETC. Again LS is very customer oriented and will typically side with the customer on warranty issues when there is any doubt as to if the issue is a defect or operator error.

It isn't the dealer. I had the front drive shaft break and LS said it wasn't covered because it was not internal. Dealer fixed it on his cost because he said in his interpretation, it was internal.
So LS warranty for powertrain does not include bolted on items like water pump and drive shafts or I suppose any other external bolted on item like rims, maybe PTO shaft since it is external. On paper the warranty looks great, but in actuality it is pretty skimpy unless your dealer steps up to the plate and fixed it on his dime.
I think it is about time for the Federal government to step in and enforce the lemon law on things other than cars and make tractor mfg. toe the line for warranty issue to include a list of parts specifically covered just like extended warranties on cars.

The engine cannot function without the water pump, it is no more a "bolt-on" than the crank shaft is.

its part of the engine pure and simple, just like the fuel pump.

I would also consider the drive shaft powertrain.

Sounds shady to me, and LS should take some lumps for not honoring the warranty.

The water pump IS an exterior part. Try and get John Deere, Kubota, Mahindra, or anyone else to warranty that part as a power train item. Unfortunately machinery does fail. The reason can be numerous. These run the gambit from legit manufacture defects, abuse, or operator error. At some point every manufacturer has to draw the line at what they will or wont cover.

A auto manufacturer would call that power train.

About 13 years ago I bought a brand new Stihl 360 PRO! Used it for 2 weeks and would bind when cranking. I was furious, took it up to the dealer still very mad, they called me and said the failure was my fault! I said WHAT? They showed me that the oil pump and bearing were gone, and the cover was melted, clutch was over heated! Still made and hot under the collar, they offered to charge me for parts only! They would bite the labor. The next day I asked my Dad who used the saw, did you run it with chain brake on? Yes I let it on, with the saw on fast idle to warm it up, as it was cold out!!!! Well ooops guess it was "MY" fault! I called the dealer apologized, asked to pay the labor, they said no... Was on US! I have bought 3 more saws, and every single STIHL part from them since!

Moral of the story, Find a good honest dealer, bite you tongue, and work with them!
From what I read LS will help you, but in the case they don't a simple call to corporate usually helps! I would feel that they within reason will work with you! But again they are in business to make money!

Another story about LS, albeit third party.

When I spoke with the guy who runs the local assembly/distribution center, he related a story about the LS corporate mindset. There was apparently an issue awhile back on some cab models that allowed moisture to get into an area of electrical connections under the cab, causing premature corrosion. They found the problem and designed a fix for it. Rather than sending them the parts, LS sent a technician from the factory in Korea to personally install the fix on every tractor, even crawling though the unopened crates. He also made arrangements with local customers to visit them and fix their tractors on-site.

He contrasted this story with his previous experiences selling another company's tractors, whose standing policy was to only "Fix When Fail," as he put it.

I find it difficult to imagine that a company with this mentality would not want to help make your tractor right.

PJ,
I have heard of these stories with LS, I did a lot of research. I must agree with you that if there is an issue with coverage its either poor communication with the company, or abuse that no one will cover. I find their corporate ethics to be high! They want to make a QUALITY, TOP END PRODUCT! Look around we searched for months there are no huge complaint lists, a few issues YES, but they were being handled as you never hear anymore. I know of other dealers, I know them personally that they don't bother making a fix that is known, unless they HAVE to. Also know of dealers billing for repairs and never doing.

Well Said, I sure hope these comments I make don't bite me if a problem arises.
