Mowing LT 1018 wont ctr grass in forward, only reverse

My Cub Cadet LT 1018 has the switch that prevents it from mowing in reverse, with no override available.

Recently the mower began to allow me to mow in reverse, (i.e. when in reverse the blade does not shut off.)

While this seems like a blessing it will now no longer mow in forward. When you turn on the blade and press the pedal to go forward the blade cuts off, sometimes immediately, sometimes in five to ten seconds..

HOW do I bypass/fix this issue short of buying a new switch/part?

Look for a switch on the deck engagement lever and depending on if its normal open or closed you will either unhook or jumper it. You may want to consider fixing it the right way though, after all, that safety switch is there for a good reason. The behavior you describe would lead me to believe there is a short in the wire, although the switch may have come apart internally.

I have a Cut Cadet LT 2000 series. The reverse mower stop switch is a button on the lower left side (left while sitting in seat) that stops the mower PTO when the button is pressed. A linkage from the forward/reverse pedal is what presses it. I was able to disable it by simply removing it from its location to keep it from being pressed. Why your tractor will mow in reverse but won't in forward is strange since if the switch button wasn't being pressed it should mow in both directions. Take the mower deck off and look for the switch. Maybe that will help you figure why it's not working.

Here is a electrical schematic and circuit description that I found here on TBN. It's for a different model, but I found that it was nearly identitical to my Model LT 2180 and helped a lot. I hope it helps you.
