Ok, I'm ready to pull my hair out. Last year I bought a LT 1042. It did great that summer till just about the end of the season. then it started skipping. Didn't do it that bad and I finished out that season and put it up for the winter. This year I brought it out and did all the maintenance the manual called for and fired it up. Ran great till I pulled the PTO switch then it shut off. Checked the fuse and found it blown. Ok put another fuse in and fired up again. Ran great till I pulled the switch. Shuts down again. Ok, off the the warranty shop. Stays there three weeks and they have to replace something in the PTO. So when I get it back home, I start cutting and the skipping starts again, but this time it gets worse and shuts down. Ok back to the shop again. Keep it two weeks this time. Replace the fuel pump and relay. Pick it up on a Saturday and start cutting like a happy camper. Get about 3/4 of my yard cut and the transmission starts slipping, won't pull up a small hill. So it goes back to the shop on Monday and needless to say I'm just a little miffed. I know some of you guys are having great service from your Cubs and I'm really not trying to bash Cub Cadet, but so far this year, I've not been able to finish cutting my yard without something going wrong that I can't fix myself other than I've already replaced 3 deck belts. I'm still waiting for the shop to call and tell me what they found and in the meantime I'm cutting an acre with a 20" Murray walk behind that I paid $100 for new and never had a problem with. That's kinda hard on an old fat man. Wonder if Cub would take it back.

There is nothing more frustrating than getting something that is a lemon. I had the same sort of deal with a new car once, where if it wasn't one thing it was another, despite the superb care and maintenance I gave the car and how much I loved the looks and performance of the car. It was just one of those things where the problems never stopped until I finally gave up and sold the car. The warranty was of no help to me as although the repairs were free, I was without a car to drive for a total of 3 months in a two year period. Same deal with a lawn mower- It isn't doing much good sitting in the shop for an endless amount of time while the grass gets tall.

It just comes down that you can get a lemon with anything, and perhaps the best bet is once it is working again to do as I did with my car and put the Cub up for sale and get another tractor.

I recently purchased a LT1042 from Lowes (under clearance and additional 10% off)... Thanks to this forum I knew about two of the issues.. Vibration with drive pulley and transmission slippage...

I did have the vibration, so after a few hours I called for warranty support... they had ordered the parts before they picked up the tractor, so I had it back the next day.. They fixed the vibration issued and installed a new heavier spring for the drive pulley.

I had also purchased the the Lowes 4-year extended warranty as my final cost with warranty was less then the $1,599.00 usual retail. Lowes' extended warranty pays for pickup and delivery and also has a lemon policy...If the same problem is in for warranty for three times, they buy me a new mower (up to the cost I paid)....

Needless to say, I'm very happy with the Service from my local Service Department. I even had my oil and filter changed after 5 hours for only $20.00 and no charge for pickup and delivery.

With the lemon policy, I feel very secure if any issues arise in the future.
