I purchased this tractor at Thanksgiving.

If indeed the Command is rated to last 2000 hrs compared to the Courage's 750, I would definitely argue my point with the dealer and CC. I couldn't find anything in print showing what Kohler's lifespan ratings of any of their engines are. 2000 to rate an air cooled engine sounds like an awful lot.

I wonder why CC or JD haven't been using water cooled Kohler Aegis engines in their high end GT's?

Well talked to my dealer today and they were more helpful than MTD. Seems like the 2006 models rolled out early. But I am holding tight on this one, looks like they sold me a '05 model in the '06 package. CC dealer is trying to help me on this one. CC rep is trying to blow it off with their new 3 year warranty instead of the 2 year 1year at home warranty. But I'm going to push hard because the dealers paperwork shows it with '05 model & serial numbers.

What did you pay for the machine, because the 2006 LT1046 is suppose to retail for $1899.00 whereas the 2005 LT1046 retails at $1799.00?

Yeah, sounds like he sold it as a 2005 unit, if it was a 2006 unit he should have sold it for $1899, or at least started at that price point...

I see the CC website was updated now to show those starting end LT models to have the Courage engine. Let me see.. $100 more now for a Briggs-like cheaper engine? If this dealer you bought from was wise Gregdog, they would make some restitution with you, and quickly. All it would take is using the seial number to show that CC indeed did make an on the fly change to the '95 model, and you (the consumer) was not informed about it, and it was not what you wanted according to the '95 literature. Or it is possible you have an early release '06, and the dealer sold it as a '95, figuring you wouldn't know the diffference or realize the engine difference. Still, an engine that lasts 2000 hrs compared to one rated for 750 would be worth more than $100, don't you think?

Of course Kohler or your dealer probably won't come right out and SAY that the Courage is a lesser engine, but I'll bet many dealers have access to the literature and ratings showing that it is. If you could get those weapons in hand, it would for sure make your case a strong one.

On second look the website is STILL showing the 1046 to have a Command engine, with Courage now in the 1045 and 42's.
Is your Courage engine even a twin cylinder 23 HP gregdog? If so, this topic is getting freaky /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ok here is the deal(yes it is a twin). I have a 2006 model in which there appears to be no price increase. All new CC below the 2500 series will have the Courage model engines. All the new models will have a 3 year warranty but no at home the first year. My dealer took care of me on this and was upset with CC for not communicating with them on model change. In my opinion 3 years of warranty says that the new engines might be a little better than the Command. Either way i'm getting an extra year of warranty and if there is a price increase I came out $100 better. Plus some dealer perks.

Just be sure the warranty covers the engine along with the rest of the machine in writing for the 3 year period. Reason I say this is because the base factory warranty from Kohler on both the Courage and Command engines is 2 years, so it would be CC picking up the tab on any problems with the engine after year 2. Kind of a bold move for CC to put more faith in the engine than even Kohler does /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've never had any problems with the Kohler engines in the 3 tractors I have had them in, (2 of them cheap Craftsmans) and one was a KT17 engine in a CC that really was supposed to be a pile of junk that lasted 25 years. I wouldn't be surprised if the Courage engine outlasts the rest of the tractor.
