Kubota B2910
I have a one year old 2910 with 72"MMM. My previous machine was a tc29 with a 72"MMM. The manuals for both machines call for frequent greasing of the mower blade shafts, I believe it is every 10 hours. The N/H mechanic told me that was too often and was of no advantage except to spray grease all over the deck. He stated twice a year or so is enough. I have followed that same schedule for my Kubota, it starts fresh in the spring with a wash and full lube and then gets another one when summer begins. I usually hit it one or two more times by season's end, which is usually November here. At that point it gets it's fall cleaning and greasing and is stored away for the winter. By doing it this way, I probably double the time span between greasings. I am wondering if this is about right or should I be sticking to the ten hour schedule. I change the oil at 1/2 the recommended interval, that is cheap insurance.

This is one of the most commonly debated issues. Personally, I stay with the 10 hour increment, I only put two pumps on each fitting though. Most mechanics will tell you that even twice a year is more than the average deck gets greased.

When I bought my new bushhog Fm five weeks ago the dealership mention to grease all zerts, including rotation wheels and rotary gear blades boxes every time i get ready to use it. I have only used it three times. Gear box change oil once a yr. Third grease job so far. What is ten minutes to spare. I always keep grease gun handy. Grease is cheap. To much grease in the can is not good. It needs to come out to be put to good use. Brgs always under stress. I believe in lubrication 100%. If you have U joints and drive shaft don't forget it either. I always seem to forget the driveshaft U Joints and have to come back to it. But following factory recomendations is the way to go. You can't go wrong.. I always have a tendency to over do things. Maybe I use to much lubrications but it is still cheap. Good luck.

I believe your mechanic friend is correct, it serves only to spray grease around the deck. Twice or three times during the cutting season seems to be adequate. Think alot folks are into "overkill".

I agree with you 100%, before I bought my BX I had an Ariens GT series with a 60" mmm I changed the motor oil every 20 hours and greased the mower about 2 - 3 times per season and I mow 3 acres, when I sold the tractor the mower still had the original bearings in it along with about 800 hours on the engine. My dad has a GT series which is 12 year old he mows 4 acres and has the original bearings in his 60" mmm.
