Lubrication via zirc fittings

Nope, they're all the same size, as far as I know, on the end the grease gun goes on, but the threads are a variety of sizes, both metric and SAE, and of course, some manufacturers use pressed in zerks instead of threaded. I bought an assorted package of SAE and an assorted package of metric zerks, then the danged dog knocked them off the shelf, so now I have a big box of assorted zerks; could probably find the right one within a half hour or so./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Where's the best and least expensive place to find a pkg of assorted zerks? How many are in a pack, usually? Woould it make sense to pull a couple that "match" the missing/damaged ones and take them to a shop/dealer with me? Thanks

Almost any auto parts store, most hardware stores, farm and tractor stores all have the grease zerks. I believe there were about a dozen in the packages I bought, but that may vary. I don't remember for sure but I think even Wal-mart and K-mart have them. And if yours are all the same, then taking one out to take with you to buy some more is certainly not a bad idea.

Funny I was thinking about this today too. Almost up to my 50hr checkup. I was thinking of greasing the loader. Why not tie some rope around the greased joints? This might cause the grease to flow deeper into the fittings and not out the first easy escape. Just a thought...

Re: Great answers; What the heck are these anyway?

This is a little belated, but I just got this reply from a word "expert" --

"I've looked through my largest dictionaries, including the Oxford English Dictionary, and none lists "zerk." That's not surprising since no dictionary can contain even half the words in our language."Zerk" appears to be one of those words that are too spoecialized to repose in lexicons other than ones published for specific trades."

Harv, that's kind of like the word "munge" I guess./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif But I've known what grease zerks were for at least 50 years./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Sorry Bird guess I should read all the posts before I post but I saw that and had to post the munge word. Then I go further down the postlist and you have already posted the same.---Sorry
