massey ferguson 65
Hello, i am looking for anyone who has experience with these pumps to help me identify it. It is a pump off of a early 60's massey 65 diesel. The pump has a number scribed into the under side of the governor cover 7123/889 jd6. There are numbers which are barely visible on the outside body of the housing, just under the governor cover three circles with numbers in them. I cant read the one on the left. The middle is a T over a 54. The right circle appears to be a 62. There is an id tag on the pump and the number is R7754WB. Can someone help me figure out where the throttle and governor locations should be?

I'd first of all www for a MF parts seller that onlines parts diagrams and lists. Find the part number of the pump that way. Then put that number in the header on a search engine and see what comes up. Next go to Yesterday's Tractor www and go to the MF site. Put your question to those guys and you will probably have your answer quickly.

I know I'm referring you to another site but a lot of us have numerous sites we visit regularly and it's because the site has something of interest to us. Just because you go off to get a question answered doesn't mean you won't be back on here to do what you do here. Wink!

Is the id tag painted over?? IF SO, DONT scrape it.. get some gasket/paint remover in a spray can from the parts store..
I have all the pump info you need..{part #'s & specs} I just need a correct pump #..
The "R" # you provided is the pump serial #.. The actual pump # is on the line above it.

I just did a quickie search for MF 65 inj. pump.. & narrowed it down to 2..
3240F968 & 3240F938.. The 968 supper. the 938 but has more applications.. which means diff. gov settings.
The 938 gov spring setting is 8.. which translates to>> Middle position on the THROTTLE SHAFT & LAST position on the gov.
The 968 has 2 diff. positions 8 & 2.. which translates to>> middle & middle..{2}
You can usually LOOK at each part & tell where it "was".. it'll be shiney..
.. IF these pump #'s don't correspond w/ the one you have, come back & supply the correct # & I'll give you the spring code.
Good luck.. TPG

thank you so much for your help sir! This is huge. Ill take the cover off and look at it again. This pump seems to be different than the others ive seen pictures of. It looks exactly like every other mechanical governor type but it has only got one id plate on it. That plate has no other writing anywhere on it except for that number. I did fail to mention that there is a "97" or an "87" stamped above the R7754WB. Its hard to tell if its a 9 or an 8 but the 7 is clear. I thought it was strange that these were the only other numbers on that tag. Does this help??

WAY WAY BACK in the 60's & 70's they used to use pre printed name plates & only punched the last 3 digits into it.. its probably a 978..
Which is a spring code 5.. which translates to 2&2.. middle hole & middle hole.. good luck..
I made a mistake on my last post.. I said a spring code 2 was middle & middle.. its not.. I meant 5..
