Okay, I have been doing a lot of research on a 98 LX188. I was just about ready to pull the trigger on it, and I came across another deal that has got me thinking. I found a 2013 D130 with 3 hrs on it, for $550 off of list. Now I know that this is not the frame/drivetrain that the LX is, but my thought is that with it being new, I would know that it would be taken care of, maintenance kept up, etc. What would you do? Go for the LX188 that is 15 years old, but in good shape (from what I can tell), or go with the smaller machine that is basically brand new, at a great price? Let's keep the discussion to just these two models however, as I don't plan on moving up in size (a.k.a. I can't afford it).

I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say. Thanks.

I think I would choose the LX 188 over the D 140 as it is initially lower in cost and a better built mower. The difference in cost is about $500 to 600 I am guessing and could be used for new tires or other repairs if you need them later. If you can get a few years use out of the LX188 you would be even, I think it is a crap shoot after that as either mower would be likely to need repairs at your expense.

Thanks for the reply. As it turns out the D140 was sold almost instantly.
