Mowing LX5 mower

Just got my 4310 this weekend and I have a question about the rotary mower [LX5] when I engage the pto it makes a loud bang and then seems to settle down, also seems to do the same thing when I shut it down, The other question is the cutting ability, according to the brochure on the mower, it will give a clean uniform cut, not so with mine any ideas?

The load bang is usally the blades unfolding, they all do it. Be sure to start the mower at slow RPM's.
A finish mower it is not, but try to slow down, keep RPM up to 540 pto speed, and try mowing in the other direction. Yes, they do mow better going one way than the other.

I've got an LX-4 behind a JD 770. The owner's manual suggests cutting new areas on your right, clockwise so you recut stuff thrown out of the mower. With the mower and engine off, lifted and blocked, you might want to make sure the blades do unfold easily. Do you have a slip clutch or shear bolt?

When the dealer delivered my LX6 and ran through everything with me, he warned me about the bang you refer to --- which is the sound of the blades unfolding from the retracted position that they go to when the PTO is shut down.

Haven't yet had a chance to hear it for myself, however, as my fields have been too wet to mow (but maybe this weekend!).

How has the LX5 worked out with your 4310? I am looking at a similar setup and want to make sure the 4310 has enough power to drive a 5 foot cutter through pretty heavy grass / brush.
