I just talked to a JD dealer in AR. He quoted $1,900 for a MX6 with chain guards and slip clutch.

One JD dealer I talked to said he sold LX's for the 1 acre size jobs. He recommended the MX for serious work.

I bought two MX 6--my places are 280 miles apart. One cost $2,175--Texas hill country dealer, the other $2,300--Texas plains dealer. the purchases were only a month apart and respresent a different market. $1800 is a good price.

$2200 seems to be the best I can get around here, so I'll probably have to stick with that. Oh well - it's not that much more....

Serious jobs? Hmm.... define serious job for me. My acreage is a mixture of pasture grasses, ditches (roadside), and swampy area that I'll be cleaning along. Too much cutter? Or is this another situation where having too much is ALWAYS a good thing...? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Before spending more than necessary, what's in the field that is to be mowed?

If it's grass with few/no rocks or stumps, then save a few hundred dollars and get the LX6. I mow 10 acres of pasture with mine and it does fine.

Check the implement code to make sure your tractor can handle the MX6, it is heavy.

My JD4600 can handle the MX6 - and a few extra dollars for the convenience of having enough doesn't bother me too much... thanks for the feedback, though!

Bob,

I have never seen an LX much less used one. Guess the true authority is someone who has used both hard and can comment accordingly.

I spent the extra bucks as I figure I can tear anything up. Main reason is that at 55 I have the cash and want to make sure what I buy has a better chance of outlasting me than not. If I last as long as my Pop, I have about 25 years left to get out and do "stuff" before its checkout time. Want what I buy this time to be it--same reason I bought a 5203.

The Texas Hill Country place is loaded with rocks, stumps, and thick grass--have a hundred acres of it. The Texas plains place is only 20 acres of pasture which once I get it cleaned up the LX might have done just fine. Could be I overbought for that one-I will never know.

The JD dealer thought that 20 acres was too much for the LX but he is in big farming country and sells accordingly.

Don't guess that helps much but that's my take on it.

I have a 4310 which is rated for the LX6, not the MX. I ordered the LX6, my dealer said I was stoopid, and that Ishould get the MX. I got the LX anyway, but he also ordered an MX for me. Atefer using the LX a bit, I realized it would never last on out place. So I went back and told him I was smarter now. He happlily loaded up the MX.

Truth be told, I think the MX is great. If someone has an LX and likes it, that is just great. But I could not usually recommend one to anyone. If the MX won't do, maybe Woods or BushHog would be the best choice. The sidewalls are just too thin on the LX. YMMVSYDFD.

I know I would tear up a LX6, I went with the MX6 and it is awesome. I had a LX4 on my 2210 and I think it was sized right but with my 4720 and 5525 - no way would I go with a LX.
