Hi All,
2. The hoses and couplers get pretty hot after running the chipper and feeder for awhile - about 45 minutes. Probably less than 150 F but I'm just guessing. I'm presuming this is normal, but being a hydraulic newbie I figured I'd ask.

1. With the hydraulic hoses connected, the 3-PT lower link hydraulics won't work. You need to disconnect the hoses (making sure to put the hydraulic levers back into PTO mode. Not a big deal but it going to take me a few times to get into the habit.
You are dead heading the swing pump. That is why the oil is getting hot. DO NOT push in both backhoe mode levers. Facing the back of the tractor, I believe the lever on the right is for the main pump. Push in that one to use the feeder. Pull out the leaver on the left.
This is why I suggested you use the swing pump connection rather than the main pump connection. However, you do not have to disconnect the hoses to use the three point, just pull out the back hoe mode lever.
I didn't realize those levers could be operated independently.
Yeah - that was what I tried. It didn't matter what mode the levers were in the 3-pt lift wouldn't work with the hoses connected.
Chris.
If you move the lever with the tractor idling, you should be able to hear the difference in load on the tractor.
Must be that with the lever out, the 3 point and backhoe pressure connections are teed together internally so the chipper feed still ends up dumping all the pressure. You should only have to disconnect the pressure feed (blue) connector.
If you ever get tired of having to disconnect the hose to use the 3 point, then you could change the coupler on the hose so you could plug it into the swing pump (red) connection instead of the main (blue) connection.
